Douglas's Story
Aloha! I live upcountry on Maui with a cat named Quercus. As time slides toward six decades, I divide my past into three roughly equal periods. The first third was clueless; enough said. The second third was experimental. I tried a great many things and travelled extensively, mostly in this country but elsewhere in the Americas as well. The last twenty years have been marked by stability. I am surprised by how long and how comforting 'normal' can be. As it turns out, making things is where I shine. cottage. Slowly the projects fall into the 'done' category. My favorite personal project is landscaping. The yard started out as hard dirt with a penchant for nasty weeds. Now I have a jungle with hundreds of species, many of which are native and endangered. Included are many varieties of fruit trees, a vegetable garden, and an unpleasant penchant for nasty weeds. I have family here on the Valley Isle and in Virginia. At some point, the tropics will wear thin, and my solution is to move to ten acres I bought near Blanca, Colorado. It is butt-cold in winter and completely off the grid; the complete opposite of Maui-style. This may seem strange, but I would give a lot to escape the nasty weeds.
