Douglas's Story
What I remember most about being at Bay High School was being in the Band, playing at half-time during football games. I didn't really have any friends; just went to school and moved on. I remember taking my first Psychology course in the 10th grade and that's when I knew (and was later convinced after meeting a psychologist during my interview process with Delta Air Lines in Atlanta, GA) that I wanted to major in the field of business psychology. I think one of my most memorable teachers at Bay High School was Ron Hardy. He was a real leader and knew how to influence people and get results. I also liked my french teacher (Mrs. Crutchfield). I also enjoyed taking only 2 courses in the 12th Grade: English and Band.
After high school, I went to Gulf Coast Community College for 2 years, then to the University of West Florida where I received my B.A. in Psychology. I worked for the F.B.I. in Washington, D.C. for 2 years; then went back to UWF (against an agents wishes) for 2 more years and received my M.A. degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology. Afterwards, I moved to New York City where I began my career working for Hilton Hotels Corporation (assigned to the New York Hilton at Rockefeller Center). Worked for the New York City, Department of Personnel. Later worked for B.F.S. Psychological Associates (at 666 Fifth Avenue, 13th Floor :D); then onto Consolidated Edison Company of New York where ...Expand for more
I had an amazing career for 30 years. During that time, I received my certifications in psychotherapy, but never practiced. After "retirement" in 2017, I worked for a global consulting firm until 2019.
I used to visit my parents in Panama City 2 to 4 times a year while living in NYC. I also traveled. My favorite City in the World was Rome, Italy 🇮🇹 Later, it became Dubai (and Abu Dhabi) in the United Arab Emirates 🇦🇪 But, I also like Monaco and the South of France 🇫🇷
I now live in Miami Beach, Florida where it is like a vacation everyday - really! It was a bit of a transition moving here from NYC, but with the topical climate and sunshine year round (no snow!), it only took about a year to unwind from a work mindset and getting into the "vacation" mode. I live in a high rise Condominium on Collins Avenue and 69th Street, right on the Ocean; so I enjoy walking, jogging and riding my bicycle along the Seawalk (typically 16-20 miles every other day). I also kayak, play tennis, as well as the violin and the balalaika. I also used to play in the Greenwich Village Chamber Orchestra in NYC until my workload no longer permitted me attending rehearsals). I also continue my Russian language studies, which I began in Washington, D.C. during times of the Soviet Union. (My independent, private and mysterious side always wanted to be a "spy.")
Would be interesting and even fascinating to hear your stories!
