Douglas Carter:

CLASS OF 1972
Baltimore, MD

Douglas's Story

We call the family "Carter Country". My mom was 90 years old October 2015.There are 29 of us counting children (5). grandchildren (11), and (13) great grandchildren. How many great grandchildren can say they knew their grandmother. It was 5 kids (1 girl, 4 boys) in a 3 bedroom row home in a neighborhood off of Belle Grove Rd. That was some tight quarters. I had many jobs after graduating and finally settled down in 1978. I started a job with Anne Arundel County and starting dating Doris Weiler (1975). We got married in April 1980. Doris worked for the State of Md. for a few years and stopped working in the spring of 1987 to be with the kids. Lindsay was born in August 1982, and Lauren was born in November 1985. Douglas Jr. was born in September 1990. I worked at the Landfill for the county from 1978 to 1998. I then transferred to Inspection and Permits for the county. I retired from the county March 2015. I had a whole week off before I started another career with the City of Baltimore working at their Landfill. So now I am a "double dipper". Health wise I am doing pretty good and I hope to work until October 2020. I recently have gone through a weight loss program under a doctors care for the second time. I have been successful in this endeavor and will be going on a maintenance program to keep my weight off. I have lost almost a hundred pounds in 2 years. Hey! That inspectors job was not that demanding physically! haha!. But the best part is I no longer take any medicin...Expand for more
e every day. If you google Dr. Izzi, Glen Burnie, Md. you can see my before and after picture. Doris and I just got a place in Selbyville, DE which is just outside of Fenwick Island at the Maryland, Delaware split just outside of Ocean City. I hope to be a full time resident there by the end of 2020. Screw Maryland taxes. The place is about 3 miles from Ocean Hwy. We have a bunch of friends in that area and get together often when were there. I have 4 grandchildren. Lindsay the oldest had triplets (girl, 2 boys) that were 5 September 2015. Lauren's daughter was 10 in June 2015. We go to the beach at Fenwick Island State Park. You pay a fee but its great for the kids with a locker room/bathroom on site. So all of the kids and grandkids are doing very well. The girls are local and my son lives in Chestertown, Md. where he went to Washington College. He has a girl friend but I don't think there are any grandchildren in the future. Doris, currently watches the triplets and two other kids during the day. You might say that she is a glorified bus driver with shuttling the kids back and forth to school. During the summer our back yard is always full of kids. Whether they are swimming or playing games its always pretty exciting. When I walk in the yard after work you here "Pop Pop" from all of the kids. So! Life is Good! 1 day at a time - Don't sweat the small stuff - Expect the worst and when something good happens it is that much better - Always remember the good times!!!!
