Douglas's Story
Life
Well, I imagine most people reading this probably haven't seen me since high
school, so here's a quick rundown on what I've been up to for the last 30
years or so...after high school, I went straight into the Acting program at
Ryerson Theatre School, moved to London, England for a few months after that,
came back home, got my first professional acting gig in the summer of 1979, and
I've been working as an actor ever since. For the past 13 seasons, I've been a
member of the ensemble at the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake. I've also
been writing plays for the past 16 years or so. I write with a partner, and so
far, we've managed to produce three plays (all of which have been
produced, and two of which have been published), and we're currently at
work on a musical. Well, when I say we're "currently" at work, that's...Expand for more

entirely accurate; we get together and work when we can, which isn't often,
thanks to our respective schedules. She lives in Halifax, and she's also
a freelance theatre director, so it's often a challenge for the two of us
to get together. As for my home life, I'm still unattached, and when not
working here at Shaw, I make my home in downtown Toronto where I own a
condo. I have many hobbies, chief among which is cycling. A little over
five years ago, I took my bike to L.A. and biked across the continent to
St. Augustine, Florida. I'm hoping to do a trip around the world in a
couple of years, if I can manage it. I'm also an avid photographer, a
passable cook, and I play a pretty good blues harp, if I say so myself. :-)
