Douglas's Story
Updated November, 20019 as we prepare to celebrate our 50th Reunion. I look forward to seeing everyone in August 13-14, 2021 in Lansing!
After graduating from Sexton in 1970, I went to Hillsdale College, played football and ran track for four years, graduating in 1974 with a degree in Economics and Business Admin.
I married Pattie Oberst in April 1974, unfortunately she passed away in April 1974.
Married again in 1976 to Joanie Tift (Everett H.S. 1972)
I went to work for American Bank and Trust, which became First of America and is now PNC. I worked for the bank until 1990, Managing the Retail Bank side before moving over to Trust and Financial Services ending up in Kalamazoo. From there I escaped back to Hillsdale working for the College for 6+ years doing fundraising. In December, 1996 I moved to Alexandria, Virginia as Executive Vice President of the Media Research Center--America's Media Watchdog. In July, 2008 I moved up to Wilmington DE as EVP of the Intercollegiate Studies Institute--educating for Liberty. In 2011, I moved back to Alexandria to ...Expand for more
work in Washington, D.C. as EVP for The Institute for World Politics. In 2013 became VP for Development with The Club for Growth until March, 2015. I work as a consult for nonprofits bringing my 30+ years of senior leadership experience to empower organizations for growth through strategic focus on purpose, people and programs. Since September 2018 I have also served as Director of Development for St. Bernadette Catholic Church and School, Springfield, VA conducting a $5 million capital campaign and fundraising programs.
I have 3 daughters, 40, 38 and 35, all living in Virginia; all three have married good men, and two of which have provided three beautiful grandsons and one amazing ginger granddaughter. I'm very proud to be called G-Pop. In 2008 I divorced after 32 yrs.
I remarried in September, 2011 to Kristen Fyfe-Mills. A beautiful woman with a heart for God, and fortunately for me. Happiness is a wonderful thing! She has a daughter, 24 and son, 22, both graduated from college and passing through living at home in various stages.
