Douglas's Story

Life In 1963 I moved from Upper Arlington Ohio to Stockton California. In April of that year I was no longer a 9th grade junior high student from the Midwest but I became a California high school freshman. Moving to California was an exciting adventure for me but I really missed my friends in Ohio. After graduating Lincoln HS in 1966 I attended Delta College for 2 years then got a bachelors at San Jose State. My concentration was in scientific illustration. The best thing I got out of SJSU was my wife. We were introduced by one of my friends from Lincoln & we've been married since 1971. She is a teacher & I have been an instructional developer. We have 2 children, a married daughter teaching kindergarten and a married son, in the Navy with two children. In 1976 we moved to Monterey County where we still live. For the past 20 years I have managed my own business and have taught art & photography. Looking back at Lincoln as an educator, I can say I received a terrific education. Best of all, several of my closest friends are people I met at Lincoln. School Although I had my personal highs and lows, one thing I need to say, I had some really good and inspiring teachers. ce at San Jose State for my BA, and I have a MA in education. My specialty is Instructional Technology. I moved to Salinas to be the Graphic Artist Photographer Instructional Developer at the local community college. College The best thing I got out of college is my wife. She took notice of me at a field trip for our invertebrate zoology class. I was stuck in some mud with waders on. My lab partner had to pull me out leaving my waders stuck in the mud. I remember her standing on the shore laughing her head off. Workplace Hospital orderly and research assistant in college. Whatever paid tuition and books. Graphic designer and photographer & set up training programs for disabled. Taught art and photography on the side. Started a carpet, upholstery and area rug drycleaning business in 1987. I have worked with my kids and wife but I now work by myself. Military I never served, but it has always been a part of my life. My son is in the Navy on the USS Momsen out of Everet WA. My daughter's husband is with a carrier, the Stenis out of Bremerton WA. Both are ETs. I am helping my son and another sailor set up a a part time carpet cleaning business in Nothern Washington. One brother served in the Army during Korea. My other brother navagated a B52 in 50's and 60's - Cuban missle crisis and Vietnam. In the 70's while in college I worked 2 years for the VA with blinded vets. For those of you have served, Thank you for your hard work and sacrafice.
