Douglas's Story
Hi,
After I was kicked out of KH, I returned to Waterville HS, graduated, then went on to the U of Maine.
Eventually, I opened a natural food restaurant, (Food For Thought, in Oakland), and a photography store / gallery in the same building.
Then, with a new wife and daughter, we moved to Florida.
After a few years we split up, and I moved back to Boston. I fell in love, and we moved to San Francisco, California.
While in California I returned to school and learned computer programming / computer science.
I became a computer consultant, and have been doing that ever since. AS/400 RPG ILE or Cobol business applications, for companies such as Fidelity, Blue Cross, Sylvania, Perry Ellis, United Health Care, Firemans' Fund, Sebastiani Vineyards, Bechtel Construction, Sports Authority, State Street Bank, Bank of Boston, and about 30 others.... from San Francisco to Boston to Miami to Chicago; i.e., nationally.
My present wife, Evelyn, (an embedded consultant), and I had been living onboard a 50 f...Expand for more
oot sailboat, first in Fort Lauderdale, then in Boston Harbor, for 11 years, until July 27th 2011, when we were on our way to Europe, our sailboat the Triumph, had some problems and we were "rescued" by a 900 foot oil tanker. The rescue, actually destroyed our boat, and forced us into the ocean. Evelyn was retrieved within minutes, but I was floundering for hours. In the last second, I was able to reach a life buoy.
So, we temporarily lived in a 32 foot motor vessel, back in Boston, while "shopping" for a new sailboat, globally.
We found and bought a 62 foot sailboat, named her: Triumph and now liveaboard her in Florida (first Fort Lauderdale, then St. Petersburg).
In April 2021, we're having the S/V Triumph shipped to Palma de Mallorca (an island south of Spain) and will take delivery of her and cruise along the coastline of the Mediterranean, from Spain to Turkey for the summer of 2021. We plan to 'drop anchor', i.e., stay, in Dubrovnik, Croatia.
