Drew's Story

Life If you really want to re-connect with me, look me up on Facebook, for FREE. You get the same info and ongoing access at no additional cost...oh, and by the way, I'm a bit of a tightwad, too. So classmates.com paid subscription service level is a bit of a joke compared to Facebook. Living in Cincinnati, and likely always will. That's not to say I'm a home body. I do like to and have travelled. Three times to Eruope--various countries including my paternal ancestral home in Holland--China twice--as you can see below--plus overnights far and wide related to my Air Force Reserve duty as a flight nurse. I have come a long way since high school. My most treasured part of my life is my family. From not wanting any kids to adopting two from China with my wife Cindy..whodathunkit?? And can you believe it...I'm turning into something of a jock. Yep, me the dude in the high school orchestra. I started some mild workouts several years ago. My work place has a very convenient work out facility. I started to do this due to a mild weight gain and some high cholesterol. Last year, I began to place in my age group in local 5 and 10ks, and ran as part of a relay team in Cincinnati's Flying Pig Marathon. I can even boast of a nagging leg injury due to my running...so I'll be doing my first triathalon this year, 2007, to take a break from the constant pounding in those pure running races. I dunno, maybe I'll never be a long dx runner, but there is plenty of room for improvement in the smaller races. Sure there is a lot more going on in my life, but thos...Expand for more
e are the highlights since high shcool. Workplace Work at Anthem/Wellpoint Ins. as documentation team lead. I have been doing this since about 1998. Prior to that I was a nurse case manager for the worker's comp. division. Prior...one year as a dept. mgr. at a Barnes and Noble bookstore(no, it wasn't exciting or neat...it was retail!, ugh!)...1991 through roughly `96 I was a clinical pediatric RN. Most of which I spent at Chilren's Hospital Med. Ctr. in Cincy. I also worked 15 mos. with my wife as a traveling nurse and ~3-4 years as flight nurse in the USAF Reserves (445th AES out of Wright-Patterson AFB). Prior to all of that was the worst four years of my life as I really struggled to figure out what to do with myself...vocation-wise... right after college. Actually, I'm still struggling... Military I joined the USAF Reserves as a flight nurse with the 445th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron out of Wright-Patterson AFB. I did so as I was winding up a stint as a traveling nurse with my wife in 1993. I really enjoyed my time with the Reserves...flew to places I would've otherwise never had a reason to visit: Azores, Turkey, Panama, and even those I'd previously been to or to which I'd like to go: Germany, Alaska, Texas, Florida, Massachusetts. Unfortunately, I had to leave the Rserves as I left my civilian nursing job, something you can't do and still be a commissioned officer in Reserve's Nurse Corp. Being on flying duty, however, was much more demanding than most other positions in the Reserves, and it eventually lost a lot of its glamour.
