Duane's Story
In High School I was active in Computer Science, Soccer and Boy Scouts. In 1976 received my Eagle Scout award and in 1977 received the Vigil Honor - in the honor society of scouting. I was very active in central Florida soccer up through 1987 as a player, coach (youth and high school) and referee. After that I played occasionally and did more softball.
In 1979 I got my start with a software programming job and have been in the field every since. Right now, I'm working as the Test Director for a division of General Dynamics in Orlando. Our division specializes in US Army tank training ranges.
In 1980 I married my wife Bonnie and had been going strong with the relationship since day one. 32 years until she passed away from lung cancer in June 2012. Remarried in 2014.
We have two kids our son is 27 and a pastry chef at Emerils in New Orleans while our daughter is 21 and going to SSC.
I've been actively involved in scouting again since 1993 when my son came home from school with a registration form. I've been Den Leader, Webelos Leader, Cubm...Expand for more
aster (for a pack of 130 boys), Assistant Scoutmaster, Committee Chairman and Scoutmaster for 13 years. I've been scoutmaster of Troop 787 in Winter Springs since 2001. I'm very proud of the accomplishments of the boys in the troop. I've been very fortunate to be involved in the success of seeing 132+ boys reach the rank of Eagle Scout. This number is staggering when you compare statistics throughout the country. Its been a fun ride and very satisfying to know you've been involved in a postive way of influencing the youth.
In 03, 06 08 and 11 went on a 5 day whitewater trip down the Rogue River in southern Oregon. It was an unbelivable trip that many of the scouts treasure. My daughter has been three times and loves the outdoors as much as I do.
I've backpacked, cycled, whitewater rafted, whitewater canoed, camped, canoed the boundary waters in Canada and spent 10 days at the National Jamboree 3 times with 43000 scouts and scouters.
From time to time, I encounter some of our classmates and do a little catch up.
Hope all is well
