Duane's Story
Life
My Spouse
I met my wife at a country swing dance held at St. Joseph's on S. Church St. in Grass Valley. She was actually there with someone else who was dancing with every girl but her. When I asked her to dance she said she didn't know the dances that we were doing. So I offered to teach her. Having taken tap and ballet as a little girl, she caught on real quick. The guy who had taken her to the dance had left with some other gal. We hit it off pretty well so I offered to give her a ride home. When I dropped her off at her place, I walked her to the door, asked her for her phone number, and the rest is history. We have been together for 15 years now and have a son and a daughter.
My Kids
My son (who is from a previous marriage) is 18 and graduated from high school. He likes camping, hiking, hunting, fishing, baseball, soccer, karate and flying model rockets.
My daughter is 11 and in the 6th. grade. She likes to sing and play volleyball. She too likes to go camping and says that she is going to be a cowgirl when she grows up.
My Job
After working at GVG for the first 16 years out of high school I transferred to Tektron...Expand for more
ix in Beaverton, OR. In 1999 I moved to Intel in Hillsboro, OR where I am a EMC (Electromagnetic Compliance) Engineer.
School
I wasn't what you would call well known in high school. I was fairly quiet and kept to myself. I stayed busy with school work and working at home on the family ranch.
College
After graduation from Nevada Union I went directly to work and started college on a part-time basis at Sierra College (aka Rocklin Tech). From there I moved on to California State University at Chico. When I moved to Oregon I transferred to Portland State University where I finally wrapped up a double major in Computer Enginering and Physics. I am now considering returning to school for a Master's Degree.
Workplace
Since graduation I spent 16 years at Grass Valley Group. After finally getting caught in one of the many layoffs they had in the 90's, I effectively dodged the layoff by transferring to a new position at the "Mother Company" which was Tektronix in Beaverton Oregon in 1996. I spent 3 years there before going to work at Intel in 1999 where I have been since. I am employed as an EMC (Electromagnetic Compliance) Engineer.
