Laurie's Story
08/11/08 Some of you have read my little "blog" and commented on the "DL" that it was thought provoking or "inspiring". So -- I went back and read it for myself.
My message to Single Moms. . . .
So, I started thinking about just being a Mom and how important this role is in my life. Although I often complain about having to wake up at 4:45 am to make sure my oldest gets to basketball at 5:30 am before classes begin or spend more time than I would like trying to figure out how I can emulate our Lord by being in 3 places at one time, I don't know where I would be if I didn't have my boys. Just today I am trying to figure out how I can get off work and get my 12 year to the soccer field by 5:30, my 8 year old to tackle football practice at another field by 6 and pick up my 14 yr old from his "first real job" somewhere in the middle on the other end of town. My husband works most nights so I am a psuedo single mom. I do not in any way, shape, or form envy single moms. I applaud them whenever they go above and beyond to make sure their kids have the ability to participate in extracurricular activities. Every single one of you is an inspiration to me. You remind me that while I have to juggle doctor appointments, after school activities, home responsibilities and volunteer work -- I do have a husband who, while he is not always physically present, supports me financially and emotionally and app...Expand for more
lauds me for my ability to "handle it all". Single Moms do it all the time without the extra money, the extra support and the thank you's. You do it because you have no other choice. God bless you all and keep you. Kiss your kids, hug them daily and thank them. One day, they will thank you too!!

Do you ever wonder where you would be or what you would be doing if you had just taken the first right or the second left or gone up in a different elevator? I do. Life is all about unexpected opportunities and missed chances. It is all about what ifs and what could have beens and making the best of the hand you have been dealt. When I graduated College I never would have believed I would be living in San Antonio, Texas, married to a college friend and be the mother of 3 gorgeous, intelligent sons.
See, God doesn't throw out opportunities randomly; He knows. He knows exactly which missed chance will become your golden ticket. He knows exactly which broken heart will lead you to your soul mate. He doesn't give us road blocks without giving us GPS!! I know now that every broken heart, every missed opportunity, every loss in my life has been for a reason. All the pain in my life has been a gift of experience. It has given me insight and authority to help others who share similar histories.
My best attributes - having an empathetic ear and a loving heart!
