Dwain's Story
Life
Live in Longview,Tx., retired from Tex. Eastman Chemical Co. in'97.I am married to the former Betty Lentz of Carthage. We have three children,Guy Jackson, lives in Houston, teaches at the seminary there, Kevin Jackson, is Director of Student Activities at A.& M. & lives in College Station. Our daughter, Diana Hardin Uy, was a manager for Microsoft in Dallas and retired in 2002,as she was expecting her first child in Feb.'03, and she now has two children, a boy and a girl.We have seven grandchildren, five girls and two boys, ages 4 mo. to eighteen. I am trying to play golf three times a week, trying to improve my golf game. I am a left-handed swinger trying to play golf right-handed and it is very difficult. I can remember Coach Hopson telling me in 1956, if I ever took golf serious, I needed to learn to play right-handed. I think today that it was his way of getting back at me for never getting in top notch shape for football. He was a good man and I'm sorry for some of the hard times I gave him. I have a motor-home and Betty and I usually make a couple of trips a year and see the good old U.S.A..Maybe we will see you on one of our trips, write me and tell me how you are doing.
I always wanted to be a actor when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a joke idea. As it turns out, they were right.
My favorite way to relax is play golf....Expand for more
The wildest thing I did in school was get on the stadium P.A. System and play like I was calling a track meet and school was still in session. Coach Robertson said they could hear me on the square and he made punished me for it.
My hero in football was Jim Swink, and the two people that I admired locally, outside of family, was my touch football pals, Carson Joines and P.L. Milam.
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Larry Canoy, because we were in the Army together and shared a lot of good experiences..
The teacher that I would love to see again would be Mr. Taylor, my Plain Geometry teacher.
My oldest friend would be Fred Hebert from Port Arthur, Tex. We met in Robert E. Lee Elementary School and we clicked playing with my chemestry set, when we set my hand on fire and he helped put it out.
My first job was at the Sabine Theater in Port Arthur, where I got paid nothing to be an usher. What I remember most about it is I was only 14 yrs. old and no one would pay any attention to me when I asked them to get their feet off the back of the seat. I decided to quit that night and find another job.
