Dwayne's Story
Life has been an absolute blessing. Shortly after graduating in 1975, what initially was a short visit to see my grandparents in Tennessee became an extended stay. I ended up moving approximately 35 miles from where my parents had grown up. Looking back nearly 50 years ago, I find it's amazing the unforeseen path that we all travel, especially when we did not know at the time what we wanted in life. Since then, I've served in the U.S.Army and January 18, 2019 I decided to retire after 34 years in Law Enforcement at the local and state level. I was truly blessed to hold administrative positions with the Tennessee Office of Homeland Security and ended my career as Assistant to the Commissioner of Safety and Homeland Security. I am married to a beautiful Christian woman...Expand for more
and have two lovely daughters where one has chosen the medical field and the other has chose law enforcement.
As challenging as this may seem, I found that it's never too late to go back to school, even in our fifties, however it did not come without struggle. I graduated in 2011 from Milligan College in Johnson City Tennessee where I received my MBA degree in Business Management. In addition, I am an Adjunct Instructor at Walters State Community College where I teach Criminal Justice.
A few years ago, I got rid of my 2003 Kawasaki 1600 Vulcan Classic after waking up one day and realizing that I had lived this long without any broken bones or severe road rash. I'm currently restoring my 1966 Chevy II SS, fishing every chance I can and enjoying life with my family.
