Dwayne's Story

I was married in 1971 to a girl that I had dated through high school that lived in Pacific Grove, Ca. I had first met Dee in 1968 while involved in Sing Out Sacramento, part of Up With People. Sing Out Sacramento had done a show at Mira Loma in our sophomore year. About a month after we first got married I came home one day and said we should buy a house. I was still only 18 working at my first job, while going to American River College. However, less than 2 months later we moved in. Had 3 sons in 1973, 1977, and 1979. however, Gregg, the oldest one was killed on a bicycle at age 15. His body was donated and parts are now in about 45 people. Started working for the state in 1977. Worked for Bureau of Auto Repair for about 8 years, then transferred to Dept. of Consumer Affairs where I ran the copy center for over 10 years alone, running over 1.2 million copies per month. In about 1983 built a 1900 sq. ft. home in Orangevale on 1 acre, later added a 1600 sq. ft. addition. In 2000 I did a fund-raiser with the American Lung Association, riding a bicycle from Seattle, WA to Washington D.C. Decided to retire from the state at age 49 1/2. Had 6 months vacation to carry me through age 50. This way I now receive a pension plus have lifetime health care. Bought 18 acres near the Oregon border but on the Calif. side, only about 500 ft. from the Ocean. 180 degree view of the ocean. Now have a 2800 sq. ft. home with a full basement In 2003 my wife of 32 years passed away. I went back to work for the state for a year. I remarried in 2006, but will be separated soon. My wife hates it here, she wants to move back to heat! Normally temps here are in the 50's, but I wear shorts year around. No way will I be moving back to Sacramento type weather! Donated a kidney in December 2016. Stayed friends with my first girlfriend who was a member of Sing Out Sacramento. Her current husband's cousin had 5 people...Expand for more
volunteer to donate to him, no one could pass the health tests. While the dietician was not impressed upon learning that my normal diet was half peanut butter and half Mountain Dew I passed the difficult health tests. lol Have also donated 10 gallons of blood. DwayneOlson55 y a h o o. c o m After I was remarried had gone to work for Amazon in Fernley, NV for the holiday season one year. (3 separate seasons). They have a program where they pay for your camping spot while you work. They require a high school education so had to get a copy of transcript. When new wife saw grade point average of a 2.2 she said she would not have been with me back in high school. Her average was in the middle 3's. But she came into marriage with an old car and $400. Back in high school had a Sacramento Bee route of about 100 customers. The Bee had a contest twice a year where top sales won a trip to Disneyland. They had 13 contests, went to Disneyland 13 times (54 months). Was featured in an article in the Bee about "Bee Carriers in Action". Worked at a store about 20 hours a week. Student of the Month in May of 1970.. Involved in Sing Out several days per week, besides driving to Pacific Grove (Monterey area) all the time.. Before I got a license had to go by "alternate" means. Even then hitchhiking was not that easy. What I did was take a gasoline can and cut off the top. Put hinges on it to use as suitcase. People will help someone who is out of gas........lol. Do you have Amazon Prime? Did you ever notice on the shipping if you are willing to have delayed delivery you receive a credit. When working at Amazon, Paul, the manager was used to coming into his office and seeing suggestions from me written on whatever I could find. Several of my software changes made the first year they had adopted second year. Made the suggestion about giving the credit in November, in June they started giving it,
