Liz's Story

. I didn't date very much in high school, was engaged in senior year, it didn't work out, to my good luck. I found my career early and worked in pre press lithography over 30 years. Back then I could get a job in any city by just calling around. I've worked in FL,TX, CO,WY, MI, Las Vegas and Alaska. Highlight was working for the company that made the color seps for National Geographic. At 19, I married my best friend and soul mate, John Osborn, 28. Together we traveled the US, quitting our jobs whenever the wanderlust grabbed us. John's philosophy was you could always work, so travel and have a good time when you are young and in good health. He always thought he would die young. We spent our first 3 years dancing and clubbing with the bands. Then came travel to see the national parks from June to October in 1973. and on to hunting caribou in Alaska, and fishing for salmon on the Russian River. We had an adventure every day, every year, dirt bikes, motorcycle, snowmobiles, snow ski, water ski, boating, fishing, hunting, camping, building a cottage up north. It was a truly amazing and beautiful life. 1995 my love, my John, was gone in an instant at only 58, He died in my arms from sudden cardiac death. We had 30 glorious years together, and for that I am ever grateful. He is always with me. The second part of my life started in 1997, 3 years later when I met the second love of my life, Wayne Ramsey. Wayne worked for 37 years at CSX railroad in finance. He wanted to retire when he was 55 and had bought 40 acres up north by Walloon Lake near Petoskey and Boyne Mountain. I was delighted when he asked to marry me and move up north and build our home. I had a 5th wheel trailer so we moved it up and started to log out the land. First came the pole barn and then a tractor because I said I wasn't going to be the mule. Smart decision. 1998 Wayne got to retire at 56 and we were up north 2 days after. Wayne designed our h...Expand for more
ome and we had the shell put up. From there he did all the plumbing and electric and all the wood work. I did all the flooring and insulation and cutting lumber for our 19' high ceiling in cedar. We always joked if we were having fun yet. Let me tell you if you can survive building a house together, you've got a pretty strong marriage. We had 19 wonderful years together. We spend our days relaxing on our porch, or fishing at Wallon Lake only a mile away. In 2008 we spent the summer as campground hosts at Wide Waters in the national forest in the UP. Wayne volunteered as a fireman and I volunteered as a Hospice worker. We love to go camping and fishing every chance we get. We have 2 Shelties that we adore. Wayne has a son, career Marine, and a daughter. Although I never had kids, I am a proud grandma to 7 grandkids and 2 great grandkids. I taught the 2 oldest grandsons how to drive with my John Deere Gator, and Wayne gave his truck to the oldest at 16. I never thought I would be called Grandma. Life was good, I was so blessed everyday. That all started to end when my dear Wayne was diagnosed with lung cancer November 2015. He went through all the chemo and radiation, we thought he was going to make it, we were winning. NOT. He went into hospice home care November 2016 and with his family, dogs and me on his bed (yes it was crowded) he passed away peacefully January 18 2017. My prayers were partly answered in that he never was in any pain the whole time. I have been incredibly blessed as he have given me signs that he is ok. Now my dreams have ended, I'm trying to start to heal and pick up the pieces. I don't know what my future may bring but I do know that my two husbands watch over me and have made sure that I am taken care of. Update: I have decided to been a snowbird and will spend quite a while fishing . I hope to hear from my classmates and I wish you all good health, happiness and blessings. Liz Ramsey
