Earl's Story

Life So this is my life blog? Man, I don't know what to say. Still trying to right all my bad karma choices as a young man. Lost the best part of me last October but got to keep my two boys. Oldest is going off to college to play football and study pre-med. The youngest is hanging tight with Dad. Have a wonderful inner - circle of friends who keep me going and try to put me on that right path. It seems like I came up short on everything but friends and family - which puts me ahead! School Man, did everything but get an edumacation! How many brain cells do I have left? Beer & contact sports. I loved school! Met great people, had a lot of fun. But, everytime I think back on the old days I am always sadden and/or embarrassed about the way I treated so many people. What a jerk. I had it all wrong and missed out on so much. I'm sorry if I was a jerk to you. But, JJ if you are reading this - you were and still are the best. 23 years you've been there for me. Your a great buddy/ man! And I don't mean that in a Eddie Haskel kinda way. College College- Catawba College. If this tells you anything I wouldn't even let them talk to my son during the recruiting process. But hey that education got me a fine job with the State of NC at almost minimum wage. I did love the people there. Rusty & Garth. Greg Stacy. Kelly Sypolt and Cathy Crosier. But, hey I was a dick most of the time there too. I'm sorry. Wish they never closed down Pudgies and I wouldn't mind a couple of hot dogs for a buck at 2 am at the amaco on the corner. Workplace Work - really is a four letter word. Don't ever let them tell you your major doesn't count or don't study in school! It's who you know - get with the right people - kiss a little butt if ya gotta! Since the military I've been working as an Intensive Probation Parole Officer where I supervise High Risk Felons on Probation or Parole. Sometimes it's exciting but mostly it's worryin...Expand for more
g about the paper pushers in Raleigh looking over your shoulder. We could be a lot more hooah but mostly we are glorified (if you think of us as glorified at all) bill collectors for the state. "Did you pay your monies this month? Okay, come on lets go pee in the cup." It really is almost as bad as that scene from Goodfellas where they are doing money, gun and drug deals in the lobby! But once again I've been blessed with a great inner circle of friends who do not make me dread going to work in the morning. Don't let your kids go in to Criminal Justice unless it's federal and that is a lock - not a maybe! My boss told me last week (Oct '07) "you've got a self-destructive streak . . . you always run off at the mouth then apologize" to which I told him I would stop apologizing in the future! Military Ah what fun in the land of heated floors - sliding doors and slant eyed whores. Korea the land of the morning calm. And that's just because the 2nd Infantry Division soldiers all had hangovers. Worked hard & played hard. I really believed we were there to do good and had a mission - felt pretty rewarding and good. What a beautiful great place where the locals were sometimes nice, but your buddies are great so you didn't really notice. Pat Horrigan, Hal Boschler, Eric Fellhauer, Chris Kilcommons. Thunder Runs, all the different Villes. It's been over 10 years and I think about overthere, y'all and our time every day. 2 great years then got out and sat around for five. Then they called me back and said find a unit or we'll find one for you - hello Army Boat Transportation Company (I was so afraid I'd be stuck in Wilson, NC in a Motor Pool or something like that) I couldn't wait for the drills and the annual training- I did one at Atlantic Beach, NC the other in Panama City Panama - enough said. God bless the green machine and I ya know I never needed any damn yellow ribbon! Or love the troops e-mail chains!!
