Earl's Story
Life
Last 35 years in a nutshell:
1976 Enrolled at UH;
1978 Flunked out of UH (not easy, but I managed);
1978 - 1982 Bartender and restaurant manager in Waikiki. Lost a few brain cells;
1982 Moved to Santa Monica, California;
1982 - 1988 This part of
my life is a bit of a haze -- but I do recall having one hell of a good time!; Hey, life in the '80s in Southern California. Decided i need to get a degree before all my brain cells are destroyed.
1986 Finally got a college to accept me;
1988 BSEE, magna cum laude, CSULA;
1988 - 1991 Aerospace Engineer (yecch!);
1990 MSEE, Southern Cal; 1991 After earning 2 EE degrees I discover that I really f-ing hate engineering; Back to school i guess. Go Trojans!
1993 MBA, UCLA; After 2 engineering degrees it's nice to have WOMEN as my classmates for a change. Go Bruins! Beat USC!
1993 -I worked at an M&A firm in Irvine and lived in Newport in sunny SoCal. Life is ...Expand for more
a beach -- and then you get laid off....
2001 - Company bought by Citigroup, then everyone got laid off after 9/11
2004 - Running out of money and realizing that living on the beach in Newport requires a job at some point, went back to grad school yet another time (more student loans!)
2005 - Masters in Financial Engineering, UC Berkeley. Go Bears! Beat UCLA, USC, and esp. STANFORD.
2005 - Moved to Manhattan to start a brand new career in my mid-40s working at JP Morgan with a bunch of 20-something Ivy Leaguers. I'm way too old for this.
Current: Working as V.P. in Information Technology for a trading desk at Barclays Capital. No, I am not a rich investment banker, but a poor IT weenie who will die before I pay off all my student loans. The rich investment bankers boss me around all day long like they are God. And if they make money, they ARE God. But i do love New York! earl.takasaki at barcap.com
