Ed's Story
Life
I have lived a somewhat varied existence over the past 38 years, since leaving LHS. After graduating from FSU in 1972, I taught high school in Australia for two years and in South Georgia for five.
In 1979, I returned to grad school and obtained my PhD in Old and Middle English Language and Literature (1984). My first teaching position (aside from graduate assistant) was at Darden College in Albany, GA, which I left after three years. I am currently teaching medieval literature, linguistics, and composition (along with occasional courses in Australian Lit.) at Francis Marion University in Florence, SC.
For the past 27 years, I have been married to Nancy Jean Wittig of Tamaqua, PA., and we have two children. Our daughter, Courtney Dianne graduated from FSU in 2004 and is currently a graduate student in forensic anthropology at U Tennessee-Knoxville. Our son, Bennett James is a junior in high school and a math whiz (unlike his fath...Expand for more
er). He hopes to attend Georgia Tech for his bachelor's degree, and then to pursue advanced degrees at MIT.
Over the past eighteen years, I have published a number of scholarly articles on medieval literature and I have a book under contract with the Middle English Texts Series of Leeds and Heidelberg Universities. I am also working on a series of twenty-five or more short stories which I am polishing for submission to various journals, as well as a novel.
My family and I love to travel (overseas, frequently), to camp, and to hike. I have grown to love sailing and scuba diving, as well, but no one else in the family wants to participate with me on those two pasttimes--go figure.
If you would like to see what I'm doing in my classes, et al., visit my website at Francis Marion University. I would love to hear from any of you at any time (other than the wee hours of the morning, of course). I miss South Florida and all of you immensely.
