Ed's Story

My story is a little different than most of y'all, I attended school with both the class of 80 & 81, I ended up leaving in 78, I finished my high school at Cornell University, I went on and attended Cornell in business, I also worked at there for several years as a supervisor and oversaw a very large complex, In 1990 I had a severe head injury which ended both my career and has robbed me of most of my memories from my school days. I do recognize many of your names but do not remember the person attached to those names, Sorry guys, I wish I could, I did marry a beautiful and wonderful lady, Sherry, in 1982, We never had children, though she was with child 3 times, but we lost them through miscarriage. After my accident, We left NY and travelled and lived in several places, Maine, Pa, SC and settled in South Georgia for many years, In 2009, the love of my life, my wife of 27 years passed on unexpectedly at which time I came back home to the Freeville area to be with my family, and have been here since. My passion in life these days is mentoring other widowers throughout the country and world, I belong to a very large group in which I serve on their committee, This group is 1600 plus, young widows and widowers, in which I am the second oldest and the oldest male, A majority of my fellow widowers are just kids in their 20's and 30's, and several in their early 40's, Very sad really, I am kind of a father figure to them I guess, lol, but in helping these people, I have in turn helped myself, I have taken the worse life threw at me and turned it into the most positive experience I have ever accomplished in life. These people are not just widowers, they have become a family to me, a huge awesome family, As you can tell I am very passionate with this, My adult life has been rather traumatic and difficult to say the least, but at the same time, very rewarding, I had a beautiful wife, a wonderful marriage, lots of travel and adventure, and through all this it has enabled me to take from my life experiences and give back to my fellow widowers something that most our age, have not experienced. I have been a survivor several times over, There is not a day that goes by that I would give anything to have my beautiful wife back, Believe me y'all, The pain is intense, Something, I can not begin to describe, but through that hurt and that pain I am able to turn it into compassion that comes from s...Expand for more
omewhere I am unable to understand, to help others who are themselves dealing with what, I myself have, So I look at it as a blessing in disguise, If that makes sense!!! Maybe you remember me and maybe you don't, I have been told I was very quiet, and pretty much an outcast of sorts, I may have been that way then, but that is not me today, lol, but again, I have very little if any memories from our school days, and anything anyone can remember and would be willing to share with me from the classes of 80 and 81 would be a great appreciation to me. Even it if did not pertain to me personally, I have 100's of friends of all ages from around our country and the world, but I am lacking friends from a time that was crucial for making me the person I am today, From my childhood and from our school days, Face it guys, We are not kids anymore and we are not getting any younger, and we are never to old to make new friends, If I was your friend when we were kids, hey, let me know, if I wasn't, then there is no reason not to be friends now. Again, I do sincerely apologize to each and everyone of you for my memory loss, please do not take it personal, The fact is, I also do not remember my mom nor some of my siblings, What I am trying to do is remain some of my past back, be it good, bad or in between, I thank you in advance my class of 80 and 81 classmates, for your understanding, and hope to hear from you and hear some of what your school days and childhood was like, BTW your more than welcome to look me up on Facebook, under Edward Onan, . Thanks guys, Here's to perhaps finding old friends and making many new friends, may each and everyone of you and your families have good health and a long and happy life, and promise me, never take anything for granted, enjoy everyday like it is your last, and above all, treat others like you want to be treated, Do what you can to help a fellow person if you can, because you will be amazed at what comes back to you in return, Take it from a man who knows, In a flash of a second, the thing you love the most can be taken from you. leaving you forever changed, I now take nothing for granted, I never go to bed angry, I look for only the good in people, not the bad, and I never forgot to tell those that I love, that I do love them, and what they mean to me. because in life, you never know what tomorrow will bring. Take care and many blessing to you, Ed Onan
