Ed's Story

Military The draft lottery kept me on the edge of my seat. I got # 190, and I figured I was safe, but no such luck, as I entered service in May, 71. I was however, lucky, in that I got a job as a truck driver, and for most of the time I actually drove a jeep, so I had lots of fun offroading with someone else's vehicle. I drove important (and not so important) people around the countryside, then would sit for hours...Expand for more
and then drive them back. Sometimes I would spend many hours driving people all around the boonies. It was an ideal job for me, and I always has a camera, so I have many good memories. I did all this in Monterey County, so I came home often, or visited my Aunt & Uncle in the bay area on the weekends. Not bad for the Vietnam era. The GI bill helped me and my wife buy our first house for no down. It was worth it!
