Ed's Story
Life
Wow, can you believe that 48+ years have gone by... wasn't it just the blink of an eye? We've all traveled many roads, some to cherish... some we would probably rather forget. Let's hope that the former vastly out number the later.
As for myself, I've had shares of both, but all in all I have to say life has been very good to me. After Berkeley High I bounced from school to work, work to school... finally bouncing back into Berkeley. After working behind a desk for several years, I decided the structure didn't fit me (to those of you that knew me I'm sure that doesn't shock you). So I moved to outside sales, working the next 20+ years for General Foods, 3M, Panasonic, and Hilti. When I hit 45 I started thinking that 16 hour days had their rewards but it was definitely getting in the way of my golf game (it wasn't actually quite that simplistic). I took stock of my assets and liabilities and decided to slow down and "smell the roses" One month after my 46th birthday I said goodbye to the corporate world and retired. I have to tell you... it's really great! You know how "they" tell you that hard work gives you a sense of purpose... not even close to the joy of making your own plans in your own time and on your ...Expand for more
own terms. The past
20+ years have been so incredible... lots of golf, lots of travel, lots of fun. The only drawback is that most of you guys are still working and can't come out and play.
On a much more serious note, The following comments have left a sourness in my stomach for all of these last 40+ years. And I'm sure it will continue causing me sever pains for at least the next forty years.
The are two people from my past who I'd most like to see again is Reuel Hesterman, and the other, The Beautiful Ellie Nishi, because I owe them both such huge apologies for complete and utterly ignorant statements that I made. I'm sure they have both believed that nobody could be that stupid, believe me one can be... Please Reuel and Ellie, Please forgive my hurtful and completely stupid and inappropriate comments. One caused me to lose the friendship of a really nice guy and the other cost me the friendship of one the sweetest girls at BHS but worse than that it cost me the trust and faith of a person that I had really grown to love over the 5 years I had been fortunate enough to have known her. I hope the 2 of you have not carried this with you as I have, It's inexcusable and this apology is way too little and way too late.
