Eddie's Story
The Past 43 Years
Wow what a ride it was. I barely graduated High School and I'm relatively sure I passed only because it would be better to get rid of me rather that endure another year of my foolishness.
I worked off and on throughout junior high and high school but I never had a real steady job until the summer of ‘76. on a shrimp boat. In junior high I worked for a sign painter and it quickly became apparent that there was no way I could consume enough alcohol to be proficient at either job.
In the fall of ‘76 a friend and I turned résumés to just about every plant along the Ship Channel and after the hiring process finally got a job at Shell Chemical. I worked there for 33 years and was given the “golden handshake” in 2008. Kinda reminded me of graduating high school, were they just being nice or were they trying to get rid of me?
In that time span I married my 1st wife in 1981 because I got the “hello daddy” phone call at work. My then wife and I had 2 children, Mary in 1981 and Bobby in 1983 which coincidentally the same year my exmother-in-law moved in with us at our Friendswood home. paration in 1985. I keep telling myself “it wasn’t all bad after all I had 2 wonderful kids out of it, but the memory of that mother-in-law still makes me shudder.
In 1987 I met (who became my 2nd wife) Janet a young lady 12 years my junior and the sparks flew! In 1992 I asked for her hand and thus began a 1 year engagement. In April 1993 we married and had our first child, Ryan in 2002. We had our second child, Jonathan in 2004. 2004 is also when I took the flu shot that triggered an autoimmune condition that I’ve been paying Hell for ever since. As I stated, I retired in 2008 have enjoyed spending time with my two youngest sons Ryan & Jonny. I only wish I gotten to see my first 2 kids grow up on a day to day basis as my ex had moved to Kodiak Alaska. Each summer I had to get to know them all over again.
Janet & I have been married twenty six years sheltering each other from the tempests that life brings as we rejoice in it's gifts. Now I try to live as much as I can and enjoy the blessings God has given. Maturity & reality has changed the way I live but there’s a part of me that is still the high school pseudo hippie goofball I used to be.
