Eddie's Story

PROFILE UPDATED Feb 2021 Thanks for visiting my profile. Below is a summary/overview of where I have been for the past 64 years since graduating from Edgewood HS in 1957. I update this periodically to keep it up-to-date. In Feb 2021 I added information about my current status. One week after graduating in 1957, left SAT and only periodically came back. Lived in Chicago (4 yrs), El Paso (3 yrs), Huntsville Alabama (1 yr), Dallas (9 yrs), St. Louis Missouri (2 yrs), New Jersey, (24 years), Israel & Korea (5 years), Virginia (6 years) and now Delaware. Graduated from Latin American Bible Institute (1964), San Antonio College (1969), Univ of Texas in Arlington (BA Math/Physics 1971), and Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey (MS CompSci 1984) . Retired from the Marine Corps Reserve (1997) as First Sgt and from corporate world (Bell Labs) Dec 2001 after the 9-11-2001 World Trade Center tragedy which we could see from work. After selling house, did some cruises and traveling, and then in Sep 2003 retired in SAT. SAT is too hot and has too many mosquitos. Sold house in SAT in Sep 2009, went to live in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, Israel and then South Korea...long story. We lived 5 years in S.Korea (extreme air pollution from China). My wife worked as a teacher for DoD Education Agency and I cleaned house, cooked, ran errands, etc. In June 2015 we came back in the good old USA after 5 years in S.Korea and 1 year traveling and very happy to be back where everybody speaks English. My wife obtained her 2nd teachers retirement in 2015 after which we relocated to Virginia south of Washington DC to be with our son, daughter and grandchildren. June 2016 - Due to old age and associated illnesses in both of us, we will not be moving out of the USA again. We did complete a 23-day cruise around Panama...Expand for more
Canal with visits to 7 countries. We had planned to visit Spain, Portugal, and Israel within 2017-18, but our health and life's circumstances prevented it. I posted a picture of myself from when I was 22. I looked better back then. I have gained 15 lbs since high school, became 3 inches shorter and still have hair (gray). Just got tested: have the arterial clogging of a 15 year old and healthy heart, but have some lung problems even though I never smoked. I was exposed to a huge amount of second hand cigarette smoke specially from my chain-smoking father who died at age 58.. I am still reasonably healthy for my age, 81 (with chronic cough), but can no longer do 10 mile runs like I did in the Marine Corps in 1996 (age 56); I can easily walk 4 miles, though. In 2020 with Covid-19 around, I scare people with my chronic coughing. Covid-19 could kill me with my lung problems. I spent 7 days in the hospital with the flu in Korea where I stopped breathing repeatedly. Albuterol Inhaler has been my live saver. Since my wife has a cast iron immune system (never gets sick), she does most of the shopping and I stay home. BTW, we have been married for 53 years. I married her 9 years after HS graduation. We sold our huge house (bought 2011)) and are looking for some kind of senior citizen place to start acting our age. As of Oct 2020, we are in the state of Delaware. We considered Florida where our son lives, but cannot stand the year-round heat. A new house is being built for us at an over-55 development in Delaware while we rent close by, spend time with our daughter in New Jersey or my sister-in-law in Dallas, Tx.. We will have been homeless (between houses) for one year effective August 2021. It is being built, but there have been delays. Eddie Jimenez CLASS OF '58 WHO GRADUATED WITH CLASS OF '57
