Eddie's Story

1. My classmates would probably be surprised to know that I am the pastor of a 1500+ congregation in St. Louis, MO. Because I was somewhat shy during high school, those who did know me probably couldn't see me speaking before a crowd. 2. The person I'd most love to see again was a staff member (not a teacher) named, Marjorie Stelmack. She was one of the secretaries in the front office. Mrs. Stelmack was very kind to me while I was a student at LBHS, and often took the time to encourage me in my studies, and bring me "goodies." 3. I wasn't very wild in school. I do wish however that I had been more engaged with my high school experience and classmates. In hindsight I feel that I was too detached from my high school experience and didn't get the most out of it. 4. My first crush was on a girl I went to Garfield School with named Cheryl Morris. She was the nicest young lady; but she had a crush on Steven Gaudious. Although I attended elementary through high school with Cheryl, I never revealed my crush to her. I saw her again at our 25th reunion, and found her to be happily married to a very nice gentleman. I married an extremely sweet minister's daughter named, "Donna." After re-uniting with Cheryl, I realized that she and my wife of 28 years had similar sweet dispositions. I must have sub-consciously looked for a person who's disposition had the same positive impact upon me as did Cheryl's. I appreci...Expand for more
ate Cheryl for making such a positive impression upon me as a youngster. 5. I hope my friends remember me as someone who was a class act--very loyal, giving, all around nice guy. 6. Happiness comes from within, so you shouldn't depend on externals to make you happy. I am happy with who I turned out to be, with whom I shared my life with, doing what I enjoy doing most--making a difference in other's lives. 7. The biggest surprise that I've had to adjust to was my self-discovery of how unforgiving I could be. I believe the good Lord has a sense of humor...He gave me children to break me of that negative. 8. If I had the opportunity to do something differently, I would have waited to father a child until I had matured and married and could provide adequately for my child. 9. I don't think this job was necessarily weird, but it was different. A friend and I took a job in college demolishing a small house with two sledge hammers. The woman who contracted us to do the job looked stunned to see us work so quickly and with such energy. I suppose it was more therapeutic than vocational for us. 10. Becoming a minister has led me to several different places. We have lived in: Huntsville, AL; Berrien Springs, MI; Corsicana, TX; Shreveport, LA; Mitchellville, MD; Kansas City, MO; St. Louis, MO; and Denver, CO. I'm certain that this list is not complete given the iteneracy of the ministry in my denomination.
