Eddie's Story

Life A few years ago, I got in touch with an old friend from high school and first thing he said was, 'Eddie Chamberlain!! I thought you'd be in southern California writing songs.' Wow, that made me remember who "I am." And so, now, here I am, in San Diego (though I'd thought about moving here for years before he said that), the best place in the world, writing songs when they hit me. Like this one, about those long ago school days-- SUNNY SUNSHINE (ONCE UPON A TIME) Eddie Chamberlain There was a day, away back in my mind, It was mine, it was fine, it was sunny sunshine. We didn't know it was one of a kind And that you only live once in once-upon-a-time. Everything was yet to be. All my life ahead of me. Everything they said it'd be In all the stories read to me, Everything I'd get to be..... But where has that day gone? All the colors of crayons? Fingerpaintings and spray-ons? Colorform cutouts that stay on? Suspended on see-saws, No friend was ever lost. Trusted, true as Santa Claus. Our skies were blue, just because. I liked you first and best, Better-est than recess. But the schoolbell rings, there's no time left. Just one minute more, more or less. Back in class, we take our pl...Expand for more
ace, Learn perfect tense and upper case. The stenciled lines, our pencils trace And all our chalkboard dreams erase. And sometime as the day slipped past, I stared out from that distant class And must've raised my hand and asked To hand me, please, a hallway pass To somewhere past the looking glass And fell through to this other side Where jungle-gyms and slip-and-slides Are upside down, like seek-and-hide And the bars are spaced out way too wide, Like you and me, and us besides. There is a day, that stays back in my mind, It was mine, it was fine, it was sunny sunshine. I know, I know, it was one of a kind But I lived it with you, once upon a time. Am making a demo CD of some of these songs. Pop with a rock edge, I guess. The CD cover is in the picture section here. Am taking flying lessons and going sky diving. But doing nothing's fine too, because just being in San Diego is great-- it gets up to about room temp every month in San Diego, with no freezing days and, on average, only 3 days above 90! Oh, and working too. 'Cause you have to do that to live in San Diego. (Not a good cost of living. But I'd rather live here-- where every day off is a vacation day-- than anywhere else.)

Cover of demo CD, "Hide 'n' Seek" (the title track, about the hide 'n' seek chase of dating). The cover, ultimately, will be in 3D or a hologram, with the girl disappearing when viewed from a slight angle, just like in hide 'n' seek.

Grade 4, Gulph Road Elementary (Me in front row.) I loved that Kim DePaul (behind me, 3rd from viewer's right). In 5th grade, I stopped wearing those glasses, but then I couldn't see her (she's nowhere to be found in the 5th grade pic).
Sit up and pay attention-- 'cause it's all gonna go by so fast.
