Edmond's Story

After graduating, I attended U of M, majoring in Physics. Next, the Navy, stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii for 2 years, with many trips to the orient. After getting out of the Navy (nice place to work if you're single, but otherwise...). Back to Michigan for 4 years at General Electric then on to Wisconsin for 14 years (living in the home of Spencer Tracey - when he was a kid). Enjoyed vacations in Japan (several times), England, and weekend trips to various locations - Rio de Janiero-Brazil, Bankok-Thailand, Penang-Malaysia, as well as locations within the US. I moved back to Michigan for a few years then received a great job offer in Puebla, Mexico. Great place! Besides work, it was nice living near an active volcano (Popocatepetl) and spending weekends climbing some of the inactive volcanoes, usually to around 15,000 ft. Sitting on the top is a good place to relax, enjoy the view, and think about life (While at the top, I actually saw a butterfly flutter by - no idea what it was doing up there without any plants and thin air). Acapulco was only a 4 hour drive, so spent weekends there also, with a bunch of the guys. Also took trips to Cancun and areas around there a few times (including swimming with sharks and dolphins) as well as Ixtapa. From prior jobs, had many frequent flier miles so a friend and I went to Nepal to go trekking in the Himalayas for 3 weeks. Didn't climb Everest, but did take a plane and flew around it for a while. Life was good... Moved to northern Mexico (Matamoros, in the state of Tamaulipas) and was there for several years. Met a nice lady and we got married after dating for about 3 years. The drug wars in Mexico started hitting close to home - gun battles only blocks away - so we decided it was time to move back to Michigan. That was in December of 2007. Now I am the Quality Manager of an Inspection company, working out of the home when desired, and in the office when needed. Life is still good... When it isn't fun anymore I probably will retire, but as for now, I like the work, like the weekends at home (my home is surrounded on 3 sides by Hidden Lake Botanical Gardens). I enjoy nature, and mostly anything outdoors, hiking, canoeing, swimming, camping, etc. I never was really concerned about money, but more about enjoying life. I have done that very well in my opinion (enjoyed life). Through all the experiences I have always managed to find something positive in it. At times it took a lot of looking, but eventually I would find it. Financially I am doing OK. I have enough to live and do what I want to do, whether trips or hobbies, so I am satisfied with that. I have never been into the "one-upmanship...Expand for more
" that I see very often. "I am who I am and do what I want to do. Accept it or don't." That is my basic philosophy. I have no desire to impress anyone. I am not into competition except against myself. I have always felt that it is important to do my best at anything I do. As the saying goes "If it is worth doing, then it is worth doing well." I have taught my daughter that throughout their life and they seem to be living it also. My 2 daughters have grown, with one married with 4 children (all great girls) and the other got married a couple years ago. She has a son and daughter. Both daughters also have done well in life and are enjoying it. Recently I received unexpected money (not involving anyone dying) and so my wife and I took an 11 day trip to Hawaii, visiting all the touristy and not touristy areas. We were exhausted most of the time, but really did and saw a lot. I still love looking at the pictures from the trip. Recently we went on vacations to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and a short weekend trip to San Francisco (loved north of the GG Bridge in Muir Woods and along the coast). - From the "story wizard", - If I won $100 million... I'd share a lot of it with my family, church and friends, keep working, do some minor home improvements, and for the most part continue living like I am - probably with a few more trips. - To be truly happy... I'd be right where I am at, doing just what I am doing, with my wife. I don't know what else I would need. - You get one do-over... The only thing I really regret in my life is not keeping in-touch more with friends and family. - Sports, Reality TV, Pets ... I don't really like spending time watching people live life, I would rather live my own. As for pets, we have (indoors) 2 cats, and outdoors: 2 more cats, a dog - Border Collie, a fainting goat, and occasional visits from raccoons and opossums. The wildlife consists of deer passing through regularly, as well as wild turkeys, 'possums, muskrat, coyotes and many birds. Turtles, frogs, toads, snakes (garter, king, fox, racers are the most common seen) and salamanders are also found frequently. Now that summer is here again, we were thinking of moving to Wisconsin to be near my grandchildren, but with all the fruits in the yard ripening (right now, cherries, raspberries, mulberries) and others on their way (kiwi, grapes, plums, apples, peaches) as well as English Walnuts, Butternuts, and Black Walnuts we are thinking that it would be difficult to give it up and live in a "neighborhood". We love being out in the country and will probably remain there. I'm at sapt2002athot....com if anyone feels like writing and can decipher the address.

Time to go back to Michigan. Sugarloaf Mountain in the distance. Coming from Foz de Iguassu, Brazil to Detroit, Michigan took a full 24 hours to get home.
Rosy after the boat ride under the falls at Foz de Iguassu, Argentina. This was no Maid of the Mist. It was Survivor of the Firehose Shower!
Panorama of the falls with a rainbow. We saw a lot of them there.
Heading for the water. After this we went under the Devil's Throat! Totally drenched!
