Ed's Story
First, PLEASE catch up with our Upland High School Class's 40th Reunion plans at the Facebook page: Combined UHS Class of 1976/1977/1975 Reunion. We need your input and please spread the word!
Life is cherished each day and being on the green side of the grass is beautiful even when it's covered with snow, and I don't have much of a belief in things happening because of "coincidence.".
In elementary school at Baldy View I was the one who checked out the recess equipment, and at Upland Junior High was on stage crew and was a teacher's assistant in Mr. Engle's "stretcher-shrinker" math class and the only one to dissect the frog's brain in Mr. Vogel's science class (Yeah, that was me and plenty of you noted it in my UJH yearbook). in High School I was the one who drove the tan colored van (1972 Ford Econoline F150). I was ready to graduate my Junior year and stayed around for my Senior year because of a very good female friend and I only took a couple of classes and worked full time for my Dad at his furniture stores.
I've served for two years as a full time missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Venezuela (learned to speak fluent Spanish built upon the foundation that many of my UJH and UHS teachers and Latino friends gave me), graduated from Brigham Young University (BYU) with a BS in Business Admin. and MS in healthcare administration, had an extremely fast tracked and successful healthcare career with a short off-ramp for cancer. Have been an EMT. Survived 5 diagnoses of cancer, 2 stem cell transplants, and GVHD within a 3 1/2 year period. I am a cancer survivor who is in remission for almost 16 years n w (2016), and help pre and post transplant patients understand the process and outcomes of blood and marrow transplants (BMT). I've gone through the valley ...Expand for more
of death and lived to come out the other side a couple of times and have no desire t do it again.
I'm married though separated for over 5 years, and we have the most beautiful daughter, coolest son-in-law, and perfect granddaughter on earth!.
The greatest thing I have ever done in this life is to help create my incredible and beautiful daughter who along with her fabulous husband have made me a very happy Grandfather. I enjoy continuing to serve in my local LDS (see Mormon.org or lds.org) congregation, being active in my local political party (No apologies to those who follow me on FB and Twitter) as precinct chair and as a county and state delegate. I support MADD (DUI is my instant flash-hot button, don't get me started on it and don't give me crap!) and will tell you how and why that came about if you just ask. I take time to go fishing just about anywhere I am, doing family history and genealogy, and planting and working a garden and small orchard of 9 fruit trees (Dang, that's all proof I'm retired!).
To age is mandatory, but being old is optional.
I own a small collection of fossils and Civil War artifacts that I present at no cost in a hands-on setting with public and private schools and groups (Sometimes, not often though, I think I should have been a school teacher rather than a healthcare administrator), and I'm still a registered Boy Scouts of America (BSA) committee member and Advancement Chair for a local BSA unit. I love to travel and take the scenic route--Road Trip time!
I married in 1981, and divorced 36 years later in 2017 after 7 years of being separated..
Friends along with close and extended family are cherished, and savoring the changing of seasons is divine. Hope you are doing well, and also looking forward to our 40th class reunion this year! Enjoy!
