Edward's Story
Life
After high school, went to ORJC. Medical school at OUHSC for 4 years (last two in Tulsa). Went into military, retiring after 21 years.
Wife, 15 years: Nancy, cytotechnologist. 5 Kids between us: Jason, Chris, Ryan, Amanda and Katie are all in or out of college. Jason (also son of Jackie Arnold) lives in Seattle. Chris is starting out as a fashion photog and lives in LA. Amanda got married and went to Indonesia for 2 years, and Katie is in OKC working for Chesapeake.
Moved to Zurich, Switzerland, after retiring from AF in Germany, having spent 6 of my last 10 years in the military in Germany. We speak some decent German, and made a lot of friends (expats from all over the world).
School
Elementary school 2 places, Del Rosa and Mitchel in San Bernardino. Not tons of memorys of school mates as it was such a short time with them, not to mention I moved from CA when I was 9. Landed in MWC on Sandra Dr. Went to Sooner Elem gr 4/5. First kiss w Sheryl (I think). Went to Eastside in 6th gr. What a year. My 6th grade, I went steady w/ Debbie, Jackie, Mindy. Played basketball and football. Put a tack in someone's chair. My first paddle. Too early for "no corporal punishment".
Jr High, my sweethearts were Nancy, Anita, Kay, Janet, Lisa. Mostly sports manager..bad knees already. Great years. Best friends Paul, Kenneth, Richard, Stan.
High school. Dropped out of math, didn't take science. French was my favorite subject/teacher. If I had known I would spend years in Europe, I might have studied more. If I'd known I was going to be a doctor I would have just been speechless.
Girlfriends, only 2 really serious. Chris and Angie. Hung out with Paul W, played a lot of basketball, not for sch...Expand for more
ool. Major "hippie" then. Long hair, weird shirts, see photo. Working spring/summer/winters as telephone solicitor. Big group of us, including Georgia, Charlie, Gary, all selling circus tickets. Concerts like Uriah Heep, CSNY in Dallas, ELP. Midnight movies. Taking pictures for the yearbook. Turning Mr Austin's desk drawers upside down. Monsieur "Hed" to Mdm St Cyr.
College
After high school, went to ORJC (now Rose State College) with AAS as an X-ray tech. Worked for 3 years in Ada, Ok, then one year in OKC finishing undergrad. Medical school at OUHSC for 4 years (last two in Tulsa), followed by one year Internal Medicine internship.
Workplace
Work at home in Seattle, doing contract teleradiology for Virtual Radiology.
Military
Two years in England as a flight surgeon at RAF Upper Heyford, near Oxford. 80 hours flying in F-111s. My only "frat" days.
After residency in Radiology in Houston I was Chief of Radiology for 5 years in Wichita Falls, Tx at Sheppard AFB. Started our hospital's "Over 30" co-ed soccer team and won the city championship one year.
Big thing was using speech recognition computers for radiology (early 90's). I haven't used a transcriptionist since.
Went to Landstuhl, Germany for 3 years, doing teleradiology for Kosovo war, then 4 yrs at Travis AFB, California. At Travis started first USAF nationwide teleradiology system, serving 12 bases across the US.
Went back to Germany, again at Landstuhl Army Medical Center taking care of casualties from Iraq and Afghanistan as Deputy Chief of Radiology. Retired Oct 06.
Post Military
After 5 years in Switzerland, moved back to the US. Seattle Washington, as son Jason and his partner Mary have our only two grandchildren.
