Edward's Story

Life I moved to Texas in May, 2004. This is like another country... believe me. Prior to the TX move, I lived in Northern VA for 12 1/2 years. It was in Virginia that I believe I lost my NJ accent. Imagine that. I can, however, go back to that accent just to drive people up the wall. No one likes to hear "fuhgeddaboutit, or what is da matta wit you"? In Texas, near Dallas/Fort Worth, I'm a media sales rep. Just a fancy title for long work hours. The people here are extremely nice, but also extremely competitive. I always used to think that the NY Metro area was the most competitive place in the world, but I have since changed my mind. Contrary to popular belief, most Texans do not wear cowboy hats. Most Texas families own guns and from what I've been told, they are not afraid to use them. The friends I've made here have deep religious beliefs. I live in part of the Bible Belt. It is not unusual to hear quotes from the Bible on a daily basis, which is fine. Still, NJ is my home and always will be. I still root for the NY/NJ sports teams, much to the dismay of the people I know in TX and VA. As far as my love life goes...well, I don't kiss and tell. That's just the way I am. I'm like that statement about Las Vegas: "what happens in Vegas - stays in Vegas". So, "what's happens with Ed....stays with Ed". This is frustrating to several coworkers and to one marketing director. But, m...Expand for more
y personal life is one thing and my business life is another. SOME THINGS TO THINK ABOUT 1) Forgiveness truly comes from the heart, especially when one has been a New York Jets fan for over 40 years. 2) Enhance your calm. Maintain composure. It is better to be composed than decomposed. 3) If quitters never win and winners never quit, why do people say "quit while you're ahead"? Someone explain that to me please! 4) There's an old saying that "money cannot buy happiness", which I personally agree with. On the other hand, there are some that say they can "suffer comfortably" if there are enough digits after that comma or two. My take is as follows: if possible, have the comma(s) and the digits without forgetting that the real value of a person comes from deep within. No amount of money can ever replace that. If a person does not have enough digits after that comma or two, so what? There are other things in life that are far more important. When one lives a quality life and has a meaningful and positive impact on others, I honestly believe that amounts to more than the quantity of accumulated digits in a bank account. Something to think about. Feel free to drop me a line if you are so inclined. I'd really like to hear not only from those I knew at some point in my life, but also from people I didn't get to know. It is never too late to be friends. Take care and enjoy life! Ed.
