Edward's Story

Life I'm married (almost 36 years) to Marilyn. I met her at Church camp. I have two kids Erica and Neal and 3 grandchildren (Tristan, Everett and Astrid). I have stopped playing baseball (too old). I started to officiate ice hockey again (youth thru high school). Previously I had referee'd up to minor league hockey (CHL & UHL) along with Junior A & B leagues, but again age has crept in. My license plate reads UU2REF (use to ref). I still make it back to Wisconsin a couple times per year...It's the only place that I can ensure decent seats to a baseball game. St. Louis offers a little bit of everything to everyone...be it the arts, science, recreation, sports, dinning, history...you name it and St. Louis has it. High School My freshman and sophomore years seem somewhat of a blur. My junior year I left LaFollette and played hockey and baseball for Cherry Creek H.S. in Colorado. At Cherry Creek I realized that I had more potential in baseball than hockey. I also learned that my mother was diagnosed with cancer. I returned to LaFollette for my senior year and fortunately was able to graduate with the kids I grew up with. I was also fortunate that my uncle and aunt lived in Lafollette's school district so I could still attend Lafollette. A few things that looking back I wish I would have been more involved with are: taking education more seriously and being more involved with extra curricular activities. I've had several teachers that I enjoyed then and still remember now. Mr. Olson was truely the individual I most admired and respected. His dry sense of humor made my senior year one that I will remember always. College Milton College was not the University I had expected to attend...but looking back was exactly where I needed to be. Through Milton I was able to meet my wife (she did not attend Milton though), grow up and begin my young life as an Army Officer. The unique roomate that I had was Greg Hull (Hazel Green H.S.) and he became such a great friend that he was also my best man for my wedding. Thru Greg I met some of the most memorable friends that one could ever have. Greg and I had many things in common...the love of baseball, unique musical groups and we both experienced the loss of a parent while attending Milton. He was a great friend thru the highs and lows of growing up. Workplace Upon leaving the military I have worked for numerous companies...Red Cross, Best Buy District Applia...Expand for more
nce Warehouse and currently Schreiter Ready Mix. I am currently the Plant Manager and started with them appoximately 17 years ago as the Dispatcher. I have approximately 25 people that I work with and have approximately 20 concrete trucks to dispatch in the St. Louis area (mainly St. Charles County). I enjoy the position because there is always something new occuring...not just the same thing every day. Military Upon graduating from Milton College (ROTC Scholarship) I was required to fulfill a 6 year military obligation...I spent 11 years as an Army Quartermaster Officer. After Officer Basic Course (Ft. Lee, VA), I was stationed at Ft. Hood, TX as a platoon leader...I served in three separate units while there (289th General Supply Co., 565th Repair Parts Co., and HHC, 34th Support Bn - part of the 6th Cavalry Bde (AC)). I really enjoyed my time with the Cavalry and travelled to Ft. Drum, NY and Ft. Chaffee, AR and met some very interesting people (LTG Ulmer, MG Dozier)...also my kids were born at Ft. Hood. I had planned to return to Ft. Hood after Advance Course (Ft. Lee, VA) and assignment to Germany. In Germany I was initially assigned to the 3rd Support Corps... After approximately 5 months in Wiesbaden, FRG I was selected to become a Company Commander for the 24th Supply and Service Company...my most enjoyable assignment in the military...approximately 240 soldiers and 30 civilians that I was responsible for in six different military communities throughout V Corps. When I relinquished my command, I finished out my tour with the 19th Maintenance Battalion as the S 2/3...it was a very demanding time, but very rewarding. When it was time to return stateside to Ft. Hood...the army had different plans. The Army wanted me in Ft. Irwin, CA and desert training...as a compromise between Ft. Hood & Ft. Irwin, I was sent to the US Army Troop Support Command as the Assistant Secretary of the General Staff. I use to joke that my bigest decision was where to get lunch...but it was a good assignment and was sent to Montreal, CA, Virginia and S. Carolina on some important assignments. When it was time to be reassigned the army wanted me in Korea and I requested Australia...there was no compromise this time so I left the military. In 11 years my family had 7 different places they called home...the kids did learn how to make friends quickly...but there was no stability for them except mom & dad (when he was around).
