Edward's Story

After high school I attended LMC and received an ABA. I continued my education at WMU and received a BBA in marketing. I was in the Air Force from 1969 to 1973. My last year in the service I thought I was going to Viet Nam, but my orders were changed and I spent my last year at a remote Alaskan radar site. After the Air Force I returned to St. Joe and accepted a position with Signal Delivery Service, Inc. (the contract carrier for Whirlpool at the time). After one year in St. Joe I was transferred to Ft. Smith, Ark., as the terminal manager supporting Whirlpool's largest refrigeration plant from 1974 to 1980. (Whirlpool left the facility as a Bio Waste & as to date, it remains so.) President Reagan deregulated the transportation system in 1980, and as a result, I took several management positions with several freight lines. To "move up the ladder," I ended up living in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Kansas. I married a local St. Joe native, Sheri Horton (class of 1966), in 1967. We divorced in 1986. t kids. Amy works as an attorney, her husband is a circuit court judge, and they have three children. Mark works in the IT field, his wife is a fourth grade teacher, and they have three children. Jeffrey owns an oil & gas supply company along with other interests, his wife is in the transportation field, they have twin boys. Phillip also in the IT field and his wife is in the marketing arena. They have one child, a son. I switched sides in the transportation field and took a position with a freight brokerage firm in 1990. In 1992 I left my position and became my own LLC company and became an agent for a large freight brokerage. I retired in 2000. I figured I'd rest in this century. "All work and no play made Ed a dull boy." I have been residing in Lawrence, Ks., with my significant other, Andrea, since 1999. I have a Town Car but I would rather be driving a Titleist! On Easter 2011, my brain, if I ever had one, was starved of oxygen. As a result, I lost my sense of balance. As Joe Walsh sang, "Life's been good to me."
