Edward's Story
A quick look at parts of my life
In 1984 I graduated form High Schools and had no carrier plans so my mother sent me off to work at the local lumber yard (The Weldon Veneer Company) I worked there for two years. In 1986 I lost one of my brothers (Cascell Stansberry Class Of 1980) and that experience made me reexamine my life. I then called one of my older brothers that live in Raleigh and told him that I was ready for a change. I packed my bags and moved to Raleigh the capital city. I don¿t know what my expectations were at the time but Raleigh didn't measure up.
I though I would be lost in the madness, but I found out there is a little bit of home every where you go. Every where I looked I saw people that reminded me of someone I knew. The city offers a few things that I wasn't use to like running water indoor bath rooms and college girls. My first job was at a grocery Store (Farm Fresh) I was the custodian. consider working as a grocery stocker and I hung around for another 5 months and quit on Christmas Eve 1986 . That was a new beginning for me and for the first time since high school I was unemployed but stress free. After the new year I went to work at McDonald's as a opener and worker there for a few months .May of that year I started working for a dairy company (Pine State Creamery ) as a Pullman working inside of a milk cooler . After being there for two year they promoted me to shipping clerk. In 1988 I got married and moved to Knightdale and started a family and in 1999 I was promoted again to night shift foreman a position that I held until 1996 when the business closed. After my Job went out of business I found myself in a bad place (out of work) you don't know how good you got it until it¿s gone.
After being out of work for 60 days I had fished all I care to fish and was ready and egger to get back to work. In 1996 I started working with Wake County Gov and I been and I've been there every since and I¿m counting the days until retirement.
