Edward's Story

Life Nancy and I now have Four Grandchilldren. Connor is the oldest and graduated in June of 2022 from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in Economics and a BA in Music Summa Cum Laude.. His brother, Max graduated from Nova Southeastern University University School in Broward County Florida in June 2022. Max is heading to Johns Hopkins University here in Baltimore where he will be studying Creative Writing and Political Science and hoping to minor in music. Our granddaughter Sydney also graduated High School in June 2022 from Notre Dame Preparatory School (NDP) and will be attending The University of Maryland at College Park as a Banaker-Key Scholar in the Honors Program studying Business. Logan, Sydney's Sister will be completing Middle School at NDP in 2022-23 and then entering her Freshman year at NDP High School. We love to travel with family and friends. In general, I love sports (downhill skiing, tennis and golf) are the ones that I participate in the most. I exercise whenever i can and keep myself fit as does Nancy. Skiing is a family sport and many of us play golf and tennis as well. Travel sites since Nancy and I retired have been: Hawaii's Big Island; Provence, France and Paris; Spain, Madrid and Barcelona; the Western Carribean via a Cruise in 2003; Squaw Valley, CA where I was a ski instructor in 2003; San Diego, CA; Napa Valley, CA; Las Vegas, NV; Six individual trips to different regions of Italy-Rome, Tuscany, Umbria, Napoli, the Amalfie Coast, Pisa, Florence, Marostica & Venice; Phoenix, AZ; the Outer Banks, NC with Family; Ft. Lauderdale, Florida often to visit the Grandsons, my Daughter Kim and Son-in-law Cal; Scotland to attend the British Open Golf Tournament and to play golf with my son and son-in-law in 2005. Add Ireland, another Carribean Cruise, Laguna Beach, California, an RV trip with my daughter and grandsons to Mt. Rushmore, Devil's Tower, Custer National Park, Yellowstone, Jackson Hole and other locations out west. I will be going to the UK in July to attend TheOpen Golf Tournament at Royal Liverpool and to play three Links courses while there with Ed, my son, and my son-in-law Calvin and a close friend. More trips are planned as we are reaching the end of our "Slo-go" years. After retirement there are an additional three phases of life each lasting about 10 years or so depending on how healthy we are. The first we call the "G0-Go" years; followed by about 10 years or so we call the "Slo-Go" years; then followed by the "No-Go" years which hopefully last quite a long time with our memories still intact. Looking forward to a bit more travel and watching the Max and Sydney graduate college and then hopefully watch our Logan graduate High School, go to college and graduate from college when I will be 86 and Nana 85. Hopefully, we will also be able to be there when they all hopefully get married. College I actually started at the University of Maryland in the Pre-Med program. I had a lot of tr...Expand for more
ouble with foreign languages at that time and because I was required to have two years of language, I decided to leave College Park, go to work and continue my education at Evening College at Loyola College in Baltimore. I switched to Mathematics and went to work at Western Electric Corp. located in Cockeysville, MD at the time. I worked there for three years before I looked for an opportunity to get into Information Systems work. I found that with Baltimore Gas and Electric and went to work there in December, 1968. I continued my studies at Loyola in the evening and graduated in 1970 with my Bachelor of Science in Mathemetics. I then continued with my studies a few years later at Loyola and received my Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance in 1981. All I remember was working, eating, studying and sleeping during those years while trying to raise a family. Most of my classmates that I remember, worked at BGE and were also going to evening college there. I have no regrets for how the education stuff unfolded. Workplace I started with Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE-before Constellation Energy Group became the holding company) in 1968 as a Programmer/Coder. I worked my way up through various positions in Information Technology until I became a Project Manager. I developed my IT skills in the area of what was called "Real Time" Systems or systems that were used to monitor Processes that were required to run the Electric and Gas systems for BGE. Those "Process Systems" became my primary strength and my understanding of computing fundamentals in general along with my ability to get the difficult projects done in rapid time led to various promotions and opportunities. In 1996 I was asked to join a group of seven executives to start a new Marketing and Energy Trading Company that turned out to be Constellation Power Source (CPS). I was first the Vice-President of Systems and Facilities for CPS and was instrumental in overseeing the design and construction of CPS's Marketing and Trading Systems and the Trading Floor itself. I later became the Managing Director over a number of Systems, IT and facilities areas and before I retired I was named the Chief Information Officer for Constellation Energy Group, so I had responsibility for all of CEG's company's IT. I decided to retire in late 2001 when CEG introduced a very nice retirement package. I realized that after 33 years of work in IT that I had nothing else to prove to myself or anyone else and because I had planned very well for retirement, I decided to leave and enjoy myself for a number of years before I became old and unable to do the things I truly liked to do. I was held over until June 2002 until my replacement could be found. I truly loved what I did and I always told everyone that I never had to leave BGE/CEG because I always was pushing the envelop on all things IT related and therefore I never got boored with my work. I am now "Happily Retired".
