Diane Marie's Story
In the fall of 1978, I went to St. Martin College in Lacey, WA. I roomed with Susan Dekreon. George and Charlie Lochner both went there too. I got homesick and attended UAA in Anchorage the second semester of that school-year. I attended my second year of college at USD in Vermillion, SD. I was born in South Dakota (Igloo), and wanted to get "back to my roots". I married Dan Dvorak in 1980. Roslyn was one of my bridesmaids. I took a break from the college scene, and we started a family. We moved to Alaska in 1982. I was thrilled to be back home with my BFF, Roslyn. She was killed in a car accident in December of that same year :'-(
We lived in Eagle River for five years, but I ended up back in the carton with my "egg from South Dakota." I went back to college and graduated in 1992 from USD with a B.S. in Elementary Education. I hope to be working toward an MS in Education / Librar...Expand for more

We have six children and thirteen grandchildren (with one on the way!!) Our youngest child is graduating in the class of 2018, so I may go to his graduation using a walker.
Our oldest daughter, Kimberley lives in Eagle River with her family. Our second oldest son, Brendan lives, in Palmer with his family. Our second oldest, Sarah, is a nurse now living in Columbus, OH with her family. Our oldest son, Christopher, is an accountant and lives here in Yankton, South Dakota with his wife and family. Our youngest daughter, Angela is a nurse and lives in South Dakota. We are now down to one teenager at home. Evan is 18 and will be graduating this year! 1918 -- Empty Nest here we come!
Currently, I am working full-time at a college library (sounds frumpy, but I'm not). I ache to get back home to Alaska - especially so since my sister, Denise, passed away in October of 2006.
