Edwin's Story

Original story written 2007. I am updating below as I go along (Feb 26, 2014) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Some other places you can find me: Musicals we've been to lately: Billy Joel musical show at the Jube. 2008 ABBA - Musical at the Jube too. 2007 Anastasia - Ballet at local Centennial Centre Theatre - Outstanding show!!! Concerts: *Styx at the Shaw conference centre *Van Halen - West Edmonton mall *Rush at Rexall Place (Where the Oilers play) *Deep Purple at some place in West Edmonton mall (how sad...) *Trooper - at same place as Deep Purple - Party On! *Trooper at our local theatre - packed house - Rocked! *Chris De Burg in Offenburg, Germany (twice) - went through 3 lighters LOL. *AC/DC, Van Halen, Motorhead, Scorpions and many more at Monsters of Rock concerts in Nurenburgring and in Mannheim, Germany I Missed my chance at seeing Queen as I was on duty that weekend and couldn't get anyone to swap so I could get up to Berlin to see them! Those buggers all went and had a blast! BTW - Queen is playing in Berlin at the Velodrom Berlin - Sept 9th - tickets are 195 Euro's for class 1 seats! Wonder if we can slip away for that...? Oh, yes, "Bony M"! Saw him at Xmas 2006 at West Edmonton Mall. Basically the whole show was a T&A show for the audience guyz and Bony M showing off his chest hair to the women (eeeeuuuughhhh!) - He even pulled some off and threw it into the crowd. Women were freaking - no kidding! Laughed so hard, beer came out my nose when he did a forward then back head snap, and his toupee flopped down over his eyes, showing us his bald pate for a quick second. All three of us (Wife, myself and Britta) had tears in our eyes we were laughing so hard! Show consisted of perhaps 4 songs, just sung differently. About myself. Served 23+ years in the Military, developed a degenerative nerve condition in my right leg, had to retire and now try not to get into too much trouble when I volunteer a lot for various societies in our town. My name - When I joined the military, I took my fathers last name as my step-father never did legally adopt me, so I had a choice of names to use. Neat, eh? No paperwork or anything, just started using it and all... Currently work a bit at home designing/printing posters and doing digital image processing - restoring old photo's digitally and then reprinting them on one of my 6 various printers, from 4" x 6" up to 42" x 100'! Update 2014 - Biz closed, eqpt gone, Giant Printer in garage in pieces, customers really pissed off 'cause I did good work. They will not take my apologies, but what can I do when I cannot even breathe during the day? I also scan and reproduce local artists' paintings onto several different media, including watercolour paper and artist canvas. Because we're home-based, our prices are much better than the "big boys" in the city due to my negligible overhead costs. However, I am not allowed to make a lot of money as I am on CPP Disability now, so I sold my business to my wife, and work for coffee coupons now. It seems fair, as I am not a really consistent employee due to my pain i...Expand for more
ssues. Update 2014 - Now total disability due to pain, medication issues, and other "goodies" I'm not going to talk about here! I am, however techno/gadget geek now, house is totally WIFI, with 5 computers in various rooms, all networked together and to external HiCap hard drives for automatic backup (paranoid about crashes!). Everything has high encryption and all are MAC address accessible only as well. Latest purchase (at a steal!) was an EeePC mini-laptop, so I can go to Starbucks and still log in and surf the net without having to haul a large laptop around, but still have a 7" screen to view - better than my PDA...(Treo 680) Update 2014 - Now a Samsung G4 and Android 10.1" tablet. Still have my Palm Treo on my desk as it was an awesome phone for it's time! I also do a lot of volunteer work in the city - have been recently volun-told (dragged) onto our local Chambers Trade Show Committee as their Advertising Chair (5th year now), so even though I am not a member, I continue to have a lot of biz contacts. Update - I resigned from the committee as I was having too many issues. Issues with my pain and issues with the Chair telling me how to do the same job I've been doing for 5 years. Update 2014 -Issues with pain management, depression, mobility and memory have greatly reduced my participation with the public. I had to fight to keep my drivers license last spring, and now have conditions on my driving. For this reason, Veterans Affairs bought me a mobility scooter to get around the Fort, which thankfully has a shitload of paved trails all around and through the city. Sometimes faster to 'scoot than to drive to a store. Really! And it's easier to drive than a car, so when/if I have a breakthrough (pain/nerve attack), I'm not going to worry about stopping or pulling over or anything. I just stop the scooter, recline the seat and get to work. And if the attack/breakthrough is bad and I utilize my Ativan, I am not concerned about getting home later - I can drive as slow as I want and not worry about holding anyone up. I have to say that I just LOVE my scooter. See photo's at my FaceBook page (in my albums) Update February 1, 2020. My medication issues seem to have finally settled down. The U of A sent my paperwork to my family doctor so he can continue to do my follow-ups instead of me going all the way to the city all the time. And my Family Doc also will fill ALL my Rx's (including the U of A ones) to make refilling much easier. My faculties are slowly dwindling. My eyes are starting to deteriorate so fast that I cannot get just one Rx pair of glasses. My muscle tone is shot-to-hell because I skirt any kind of exercise as it exacerbates the nerve pain. Damned if I do... I do spend a lot of time laying down due to my medical problem(s), and continue to go to the U of A Multi-Disciplinary Pain Clinic for emergency assistance with my disorder. Hope to chat with other members of my class in the future. I am available on FB and Skype, so if you want to chat, just drop me a line. NEW - now also on WhatsApp. Look for me on FB as "Alter Funker" (German - Old Radio Operator). Updated Feb 03, 2020
