Elaine's Story
I attended Lincoln School, New Providence until beginning of 5th grade. We then moved to Summit, where I went to Washington School, Summit Jr. High and up to Sophmore year of high school. My father worked at Bell Labs and was transferred to Indpls., IN in 1957. I graduated from school in Indpls. Married at age 19 and was married for 30 years. Had two sons that are married and have 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. In 1993 I married my Summit high school boy friend, Matt Keyes. He came out to IN to live and obtained work at Handleman Co. I was a multi-line insurance adjuster for 23 yrs. We did a lot of travelling and enjoyed several vacations to the FL keys, Bahamas, Jersey Shore, Cape Cod, etc. and many, many weekend trips to the states around us,especially, Nashville, TN. When we retired, we looked at homes in FL, Charleston, New Bern, but ended up moving back to NJ in Ocean Cty., near the shore, which we loved. Went to NYC often to Lincoln Center Metropolitan Opera, Madison Sq. Garden & Broadway shows and in the summer, every day to the beach. Matt has had several serious health issues, so we moved back to IN where I have family members. He has been in the hospital several times this year. We have not been ab...Expand for more
le to travel for the last few years, due to his health. We have a lovely home here. I love retirement...have lots of hobbies: Painting w/watercolors & acrylics, reading, gardening, bike riding and love having lunch with various friends & groups. My family has birthday dinner parties almost every month and sons families all live within 15-20 min., so we see them often. We miss living at the Jersey Shore and our trips to Summit (Matt's sister & family still lives there). Matt cannot fly due to his severe breathing problems, so it doesn't look like there will be a visit anywhere in our near future. We often think about the wonderful times we had at Summit H.S. Matt use to wait at my locker in the morning and after school and we walked over town where he bought me cherry cokes and vanilla phosphates...sometimes a new record. We went to the movies at the Strand theater, dances and parties. Lovely memories of Summit and all our family, friends and classmates!
.Sadly, Matt passed away Nov. 30, 2016. I am now trying to make the adjustment to being a widow. It is very difficult at this point in life, but fortunately I have many family members and friends nearby. Planning a trip to NJ in July & will be staying with Matt's sister in Summit.
