Elaine's Story
Hello, After graduating from college I landed a job at the Dept of Social Services . I have been there for 25 years. It gives one the chance to help the community get through with the tough times alot of people are with the economy. I am married with one son age 17. The last year has been very trying. My son was working on a farm-city boy loving the good ole country . He was driving a tractor up a hill, at the time he was 16 years. The tractor lost rpm's and he tried to downshift and it got stuck in neutral. It started to free roll backwards and he flew off and the tractor rolled over him breaking up his pelvis. He broke both hips, cracked his left hip socket in 2 places, cracked his tailbone and had a horrible huge cut inhsi perineal area. He was pretty much bleeding to death in this field. wn the bleeding. He tried to get up twice and walk as he was alone in the field. He realized his phone still worked so he clled me for help. I'll never forget it. Before long the wonderful firemen from Skaneateles and Marcellus came to his rescue and he was airlifted to University Hospiltal. It is a miracle he is alive today. Guardian angels were with him. He is a strong, tough kid. All his bailing hay, hockey and motorcrossing strength paid off. He rested 1 week and in 1 1/2 weeks of therapy he could lift himself into the SUV with out using his legs. Much to the dr.s amazement he was walking in 2 months. He even got some hunting in in his wheelchair. There are still some issues we have to deal with and still some pain but he is here and back to being a typical teenager. So it has been a challenge and life is starting to get back to some degree of normalcy.
