Elaine's Story
I'm sure a lot of folks won't remember me that much from high school. I was a late bloomer and somewhat quiet & shy during that time. Besides my studies, I was in the marching & concert bands and worked part-time after school, so I was always busy. I also dated a guy from Northeast High and hung out with some Lauderdale people a little more than the Pompano people.
Before attending college, I tried a variety of different jobs for about 6 years with Southern Bell, Western Union, a part-time flight attendant with Royal Airlines (now defunct), a bean-bag chair sewer at Waterbed City (now City Furniture) & was a part-time model (freelance)....and did a lot of partying.....
At age 25, I decided to get serious, use my brain & went to college majoring in accounting, with a minor in computer science. During college I worked with a local CPA full-time and learned a little about the industry. Upon graduation, I landed an entry position with Touche Ross & Co CPA's (now Deloitte & Touche CPA's) and was an auditor with their South Florida Divison for around 4 years. It was a total grind so I left them in 1984 and opened up my own CPA practice (primarily tax preparation & business accounting) in Fort Lauderdale. 2009 marked my 25th corporate anniversary (in addition to marking our high school 40th reunion). tice to the Space Coast in 2009. It is a kinder and gentler place in Florida, reminiscent of South Florida in the 60's and 70's. My worklife has been a hectic & stressful profession, and I am very much looking forward to retiring and slowing down someday.
Personally, I have not married nor had any children. My first two fiances died, and I broke up with the third a few years back. Not too lucky at love, I guess. But that's OK. I've had some extremely nice friends over the years. In 2009, I lost my life-long friend Joan (Schuessler) Vaughn, and miss her dearly. In addition to human friends, I have a very sweet kitty cat with a gentle soul.
I've traveled a lot and have seen many places, but still want to see & do more, hopefully when I retire.
Love going to Vegas (closet gambler), rock music, dining out, going to movies, I'm a trekkie, and I have a passion for walking on the beach collecting seabeans and frosted beach glass. The latter helps me take my mind off of work and is a great stress-reducer for me. I write occasional articles for "The Drifting Seed" newsletter (a "seabeaner" & oceanography publication) of things that I see wash up on the beaches in Florida & in places that I travel to.
Most of my family has passed on to the big beach in the sky, or have relocated further north in Florida.
Well, that's my story....so far.
