Elaine's Story
Short update: my beloved husband died October 2014. It's thrown me into a completely different world, and while I appear to be coping, things have .... well... changed. I'll come back and re-write the rest of this when I have the heart to do so, but meanwhile, if you are reading this, take care of yourself and cherish your loved ones.

IâÂÂm creating on multiple levels, and starting to be âÂÂmyselfâ again after losing my beloved Jim. IâÂÂm painting, volunteer teaching with a womanâÂÂs group, and starting to write.
I live in Citrus Heights, a suburb of Sacramento, and love this place. There are three chickens, two indoor cats and two (more or less) outdoor cats that just âÂÂshowed upâÂÂ. I travel whenever I have a chance (and a house sitter), paint as the muse takes me (watercolors now) and am beginning to write, with the goal of doing travel writing. Had a total knee replacement and as soon as that is 100% will do the other. After that one, will start traveling with gusto.
My plans for being a marine biologist fizzled, which turned out to be a good thing. Noodled around in the art world for a number of years, and then went back to UCSD to finish my degree in Visual Arts. Had a studio/loft in the Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego, painted, sold artwork, jewelry, and designe...Expand for more
d artwear clothing.
Family matters cropped up in 1992, packed up and moved to the mountains near Yosemite to take care of my mother. Lived along the Merced River until 1997, (off grid), surrounded by national forest. This was an incredible time of my life. Learned countless things about living in the wilderness, self sufficiency and do it yourself living. Learned how much courage and stubbornness have in common.
Had a short brain fart, moved to Arkansas for about 9 months. Thought it was love. Turned out it was menopause. Friends pooled together to bring me back West, but I landed in Las Vegas for 3+ years. What a hoot. Strange place, but I actually like all the neon and sparkles. Didn't really get into the money thing, but loved the freebies.
Company I worked for shut down Vegas center gave me option to move to Sacramento. Took it and moved here in 2001. Met my husband, worked, and in 2009, was laid off from my job as technical writer/web analyst at Verizon. Was a gift in disguise,
Overall, life has been an adventure, and this is just a new chapter for me. I have no idea where I will end up, or what I will be doing, but I intend to have an amazing time along the way. I'm reaching for the joy in life, doing what I can to live with kindness and trying to figure out what makes the world a nicer place to live.
