Elaine's Story

Hello, Thank you for visiting my profile: After high school, I received my AA Degree from Orange Coast College in Secretarial Science in 1980. My plan was to transfer to UCI, but I really wanted to continue my education at UCLA and Major in Theater Arts. Instead, I married the guy of my dreams, Andy Young - '76 Millikan Grad, in 1981. We have been married for 38 years and have 3 children - boy, girl, boy. Our daughter is married and we have 2 darling grandsons - 5 years old, and 3 years old. While I was going to college, I taught gymnastics at SCATS in Huntington Beach and was on the SCATS Exhibition Team. I was also able to use my degree and was a secretary for several companies. After we had our children I was a "stay-at-home" mom until our last one went to high school. I did odd jobs here and there only when our children could either be involved or only when I had to leave them with someone for a short period of time. I have been working at Knott's Berry Farm for 14 years as an Educational Tour Guide and Historical Reenactor for children who come from schools on field trips to learn about the 1700's in our Independence Hall, for which I play Abigail Adams, and to learn the history of how our country came to be. And to learn about the history of the old west for which I play Nancy Kelsey, the first pioneer woman to make it to Calif. in 1841 with the very first wagon train. I do...Expand for more
many other jobs and work in many other departments at Knott's as well - which include 6 years of training the new hires, guest services, lost children's dept., helping to take care of the horses in the barn that pull our Stagecoaches, Mrs. Claus including being in the Christmas Parade, Easter Bunny, 4 years of CS Streets at Knott’s Scary Farm (Time Card Coordinator) and 3 years of Camp Spooky for the children, Knott's Pie Eating Contest at The OC Fair, a Train Conductor on our 1881 train, official tour guide for our 60th Anniversary Celebration of our train being at Knott's since 1952 - I am honored to have been a part of that since my dad traveled on that same train to work in Gunnison, Colo. in 1936. It is an absolute blessing to work at Knott's. Well, Mama made it to 75 years old (kidney failure). Daddy lived to be 100 years and 2 months old to the day. They are both buried in the cemetery in Paradise, Calif. On Nov. 8th, 2018, the little mountain town caught fire and burned down in one day making it the worst fire in Calif. history. 86 people died. 97% of the town was destroyed along with my parent’s house. We’re so glad we sold it right after my daddy’s death in 2016. I miss my Millikan friends and high school acquaintances very much. Please write to me and let me know how you are doing. I would love to be able to read about your life, too! Elaine Grimes Young - '77 Millikan Grad
