Eliot's Story

Here's the short and sweet version. My family moved from Normal, IL in Jul '79, right after my Sophmore year at NCHS, to Houston Texas. I completed my high school career at Klein Forest. It was like going from college to grade school. NCHS was so open, treated us like adults, were as Klein Forest, well you couldn't do anything. It was like going to lock down everyday. I survived it though. I put off college (grades sucked) and started working for a cable TV installer. I did that for almost a year and a half, but got bored. I was making pretty good money, but it just seemed there was something better out there. So I joined the Air Force in the fall of '82. I thought I'd stay just 4 years, but ended up making a career out of it. I just loved it. My first assignment was to MacDill AFB in Tampa, FL. Great start. I met my future wife there and are still together after almost 25 years. We had numerous assignments, including Misawa, Japan for 4 years, where both of my kids were born. Then Eglin AFB, Fl (small town - great place to raise kids - hated to leave), then Osan, South Korea (uh-this one - not so fun - wife and kids had to stay behind), Aviano AB, Italy (Awesome - a lot of work - real world mission - Bosnia and such),...Expand for more
and finally Luke AFB, AZ. A 23 year career that finally ended in 2005. It was great fun. I worked on the best fighter aircraft in the world, traveled all over the Pacific and Europe, and learned more about people and cultures than I ever thought I would. I was sad to see it end, but it was time. I'm now a real estate agent in Peoria, AZ. We've been here for 11 years now, the longest I've lived in one place since Illinois. Both of my kids are in college. My son Sean is now 22 yrs old and will graduate next fall. My daughter Erika is almost 20, a Sophmore attending Arizona State's (yeah - the party school) WP Carey School of Business. I'm very proud of both of them. My wife and I, well, things are a lot quieter now. We have our dogs, our hobbies, and of course work. I finally got off my butt a couple of years ago and went back to school. I've been attending college off and on since '94, and I've finally finished my degree at the ripe "young" age of 44. Better late then never. Don't know if I'll ever use it, but at least I have it. Well, that's about it in a nutshell. Of course, a lot of exciting things happened in between, so if you're curious or just want to catch up, just write me a note. Onward towards the future!
