Life
This year I decided to go for it and I went on a 10-day cruise with two of my friends. We went on Holland American Volendam ship from Fort Lauderdale FL to Panama Canal. The stops were Bahamas, Aruba, Curacao, Panama and Costa Rica. The best part of the trip was the ship going through the locks. The biggest mistake I made was going horseback riding in the water in Half Moon cay Bahamas. The horse has no saddle or stirrups and there's nothing much to hold on to. I had trouble balancing but luckily I didn't fall off and made it to the end of the ride intact. I used to go horseback riding in the LA river 45 years ago, but somehow I've lost my skill in that area.
We went on some excursions in Curacao (beach), Panama (the Panama Railway), and Costa Rica (canal cruise reminded me of the Jungle Ride at D...Expand for more
isneyland) In Costa Rica we saw sloths, crocs, monkeys in the trees, lots of strange birds etc.
Cruise lines have only been able to go through the locks since 2000. I learned interesting facts about the canal and had a great time on the trip. The locks were completed in the early 1900's by the US and it is all run by the power of the water from the rainforests.
This was my first 10-day cruise, I had been on a couple either 4-day or 7-day cruises in the 90's with my mom and kids.
Now I have to get back to work. Having had the great experience of this cruise, I don't mind getting back to the old routine. Christmas is coming so have to get the shopping done and Christmas cards written in a short time, but it's all worth it.
