Eliseo's Story

For those who may still have a good memory: I was on the Freshmen Basketball team in '65 (they had not invented the Junior Varsity term yet). I was mainly a bench warmer and our best ball player was Emilio Corral. I remember only two other guys on the team (el "Fly" Acosta, Luis Alvarez) I was Sophomore Favorite in '66-67. I used to have a girlfriend named Anita Zubia, nicknamed "Cookie." She was from Sunland Park. Most people remember us because sometimes we used to wear the same shirts to school. Eventually, on the last day of my junior year ('67-'68) some of my friends and I decided to pull a "prank" on our Electronics Teacher (Mr. Trittenbach). We smeared a watermelon all over his car. When I was called to Mr. Attel's office, Asst Principal, I admitted my guilt and he suspended me and told me that if I wanted to graduate the following year, that I was going to have to bring BOTH my parents to his office. That's when I said, "Later, Gators!" So I transferred to El Paso High School and graduated as a "Tiger" but I will ALWAYS be a "Lion" at...Expand for more
heart. A year later (1970) I went to California to live with my uncle. On February 16, 1971 I joined the U.S. Marine Corps and, subsequently, retired as a Gunnery Sergeant (E-7) upon returning from Saudi Arabia after "Desert Storm I." I retired on October 21, 1991 after having served 20 years, 8 months, and 5 days. As they say in sports jargon, "Who woulda thunk!" I got married after joining the Corps and divorced after 14 years. Pues me case con una ruca de La Jeff (unfortunately), had two kids. Stayed single for 8 years and remarried November of '92. Yes, I'm still married to the same woman (no kids) and I have lived here in Carrizo Springs (120 miles SW of San Anto). I worked for the Texas Dept of Criminal Justice and the Texas Workforce Commission for 15 years and I plan to retire on January 31, 2011 from the state. Two years later, hopefully, I'll retire at 62, then just "kick back" and collect my military pension, my state monthly annuity, and my Social Security!!! There you have it folks. In a nutshell, the story of my life!
