Elizabeth Fontana:

CLASS OF 1973
Brooklyn, NY

Elizabeth's Story

Life I started FDR in 1970 and graduated in 1973 - transferred from St. Joseph's High School in downtown Brooklyn. While there, I worked in the guidance counselor's office and was part of the library squad - not one for 'after school' activities because I had a job. My boyfriend who later became my husband, went to Midwood and we used to have more fun hanging around Brooklyn College and trying to act like college students instead of high school ones. Besides - you could smoke on their campus! As with most marriages that start with too young participants, ours lasted 18 years and ended in divorce. I am now remarried and have an 11 year old son. Spent 16 years working for the Chase Manhattan Bank, 4 years with St. Vincent Catholic Medical Centers and now work for Tishman Construction Corporation. I live in Staten Island still love my music and have picked up the guitar again recently which I started playing as a sophomore in high school. I love the Catskills and go there and the Poconos as often as possible. Back when I was in FDR, God did not play a very important role in my life. I am happy to say, HE does now! Because of God, I have my son, my mother's life was spared for 8 more years and there have been many miracles around my family and I - some major and some minor. I belong to a Roman Catholic church and although I don't always agree with all of their doctrine, I attend Mass every Sunday to worship. People need to realize why we are here - what the purpose of our lives is. Where we e...Expand for more
nd up when it is all over depends on the life we lived. Now that most of us are close to 50 or even passed that mark, if we are lucky we may have 20 or 30 years left on this planet. That's all. Let's not waste it by striving for material things - why waste your hours away struggling to buy this and trying to afford that when all it is is materialism. YOU DO NOT EVEN GO OUT OF THIS WORLD WITH THE BODY YOU CAME INTO WITH! All you leave with is WHO YOU ARE! So be the best person you can be - LOVE one another as Jesus loved us. Because "In the end - the love you take is equal to the love you make", Beatles, 1969. Remember? All you take with you is the love you gave to others and those who loved you. Be kind to each other - don't look at the photographs of one another in this Classmates and make fun or gloat because you look better or you are thinner or have more hair! Your body is going to rot in the ground! Your soul belongs to God - your soul is eternal - take care of it the way you take care of your skin that will be food for the worms! Feed your soul - read the bible - tell God your sins and repent and be TRULY free! THAT will make you feel like a MILLION dollars - not putting dead animal skins on your back (minks or chinchillas or leather coats). Please listen! I am not a crazy "born again Jesus-freak" I am just LIKE YOU but I have seen the light and need to share the message with you!!! God bless you former FDR students! You will have fear of nothing - not even death when you are right with God!
