Peni's Story
Elizabeth is married 40 yesrs and is from Graham, Washington. I grew up on 20 acres in a family of 6 kids southeast of Bethel High School. I attended Elk Plain Elementary grades 1-5, BJH 6-9, and BHS 10-12. We had year round schools at BJH with 45 on and 15 off. The great part of this schedule in the winter is we had a lot of time ice skating on our giant pond. We all had ice skates. My parents are still alive and married. (update my mother passed 2022)We had a lot of horses and other animals. I was known as Peni Fullerton in school but I was born Elizabeth Jane Fullerton, and have always gone by Beth at home and at church. I did not change my name, rather my Mother decided to do that on a fluke when I was in 2nd grade, so I was known at school as Peni. I have been married to Greg Rohr who attended Bethel schools k-9, and we have three adult daughters, all happily married, and 7 grandkids. Oldest daughter has 3 kids , with the eldest grandson serving in the Army, and my daughter is general manager of Van Heusen at the Auburn Supermall. (Update: all of my daughters and their families now live here in conservative Lewis County) Next daughter is married 17 years with 5 kids and lives in Toledo WA. (now moved to Texas, thanks Inslee) Youngest daughter is married and is a Program Manager in the IT Dept. at Centralia College. My youngest two daughters are bluegrass musicians who sing Christian and Country music in the style of Patty Loveless and Wynnona. I also attended UW, PLU, and Walden. I retired from the Franklin Pierce School District as a middle school teacher and Greg retired from Bethel Schools developing the new aerospace composites program at the Pierce County Skills Center.
Music I prefer includes mostly bluegrass/country, vintage christian music and a little Motown. Books are mostly historical or historical fiction, such as books about the American Civil War, or English history. For media, I prefer political shows, science or historic figure documentaries, and romantic period pieces.
Places I enjoy are Mt. Rainier, Longbeach WA, Disneyland, Gold towns such as Columbia, CA, historic civil war battlefields, and England. I lived in England 3 years...spent 3 Christmas's there, lived in a small village called Fairford in a flat and worked in an Italian-English restaurant down my street. I got to know many locals and their families and adopted many customs. I've been all over England! My favorite place to visit there was Stratford Upon Avon and Warwick Castle. I've read up on many historic figures and history of England since then which partly prompted me to finish my degree later on and become a teacher.

hing I wore to school since 6th grade including all my jeans, coats, blazers, dresses, etc. I've sewed several weddings - first wedding dress I sewed for a lady when I was 16 years old. Now I am involved in quilting. I sewed a quilt at my Grandma's in Oregon, who was a quilting bee leader, when I was 14 and spent the summer there, so I was trained old school but definitely prefer modern methods. I got a C- in Home Ec at BHS! The teacher didn't know I sewed a lined 3 piece suit within the first 2 weeks of class and had nothing to do the rest of the quarter. She thought I was goofing off helping others, but I was actually far ahead of everyone.
I put my best effort into raising my daughters and creating a nice family, We were leaders and participants in clubs such as Colts and Fillies at the Tacoma Sportsmans Unit, Missionettes at Spanaway Assembly of God Church, WA Old Time Fiddlers, and the WA Bluegrass Association. My duaghters have played a hundred nursing home gigs, sandwich shops. and bluegrass festival campouts and thought they were going to be the next Dixie Chicks band but by the time they were 19, college, marriage and kids took priority, thank goodness. Those were fun years.
My husband and I have home bible studies with mostly family and a few friends at our house the past few years and a book we currently read is called "America in the Bible" by Steven Grant. We've also built a few homes together acting as owner/builder and doing all of the work ourselves, which taught our kids to be flexible, creative and have a good work ethic. My husband had us all on dirt bikes then quads then I got a 150cc scooter, which I rode everywhere for a while including work. I parked my scooter inside my science classroom!. A fun ride was Puyallup to North Vashon island round trip following my husbands Suzuki V-Strom. No freeways for me but my scooter could easily keep up with 50 mph back roads when needed. We've also done a lot of fishing in WA and bought some land near the Cowlitz boat launch to eventually build a house and fish some more. (update- house is built and we are fishing the Cowlitz now)
My favorite quote is from some obscure novel I'd read many years ago but it stuck with me because it reflects how I feel about my life, as an American, and, my heritage: " What I was leavin' behind didn't exist anymore. What I was headed for was still being made, and I guess in a way, that's what America's always been about: leavin' things behind, and hopin' to find somethin' better.....Oh, Shenandoah..."
Update: Active in Lewis County Republican Party. We are elected by the electeds. I am Executibe Board Secretary ans Greg is State Committeeman. We seem to regularly make it in the Local newspapers ( as Elizabeth Rohr).
