Elizabeth's Story
Life
I got married at the tender age of 20. At the ripe old age of 38 my beautiful daughter came into my life. Sammi is my joy and my life. I live in North Bend Oregon about 5 minutes from the Pacific Ocean.
I have traveled all over the country and lived in about 15 different places. Including Gulf Shores Alabama. A lovely 2 mile wide island. Our house faced the intercoastal waterway and 1 1/2 mile behind us was the Gulf of Mexico. Swimming in the Gulf was our Christmas ritual. I got addicted to the sounds of the waves and enjoyed a peaceful walk on the beaches in the early mornings.
We have 2 of the sweetest, craziest dogs you ever wanted to meet living in our house.. Well frankly Samanatha and the dogs run the house.
School
My favorite memories are of 1st period math class with Glenn, Holli and Mark. It was a blast waking up each day with them, even if we got in a little trouble sometimes. :)
I really liked all my classes with Mr. O'Reiley. HE ROCKS!!
Would I do it all over again? You bet. Would I change things? You bet. High school is still a favorite memory.
College
After High School I did a stint at Missoula Vo-Tech in Accouting. After I got married both husband and I went to U of M in the field of Social Work. While we both did great in classes, I learned very quickly I was NOT cut out to be a social worker! I debated changing majors to Teaching. I just love little kids, but I didn't have the desire to keep attending school... so off to the work place for me.
Workplace
Moving all over has really given me a wide variety of work environments. My all time favorite has to be an Office Manager of a Cotton Gin. Surprisingly I did super in sales. We would literally work around the clock during ginning season. In Alabama this is mid Oct to Jan each year. We worked extremely hard for 3 months, hard for 3 months and the rest ...Expand for more
of the year was a skate. I learned so much about agrilculture, government bonds and good ole farmers. I would definately do this job again in a heartbeat. Pretty much I've stayed in the accounting field. When we lived in Oregon I had my own bookkeeping business.
While in Alabama Samantha was added to our family. When we decided to move home to Montana my husband and I looked at ourselves finacially and decided I would stay home until Sammi started school in the fall of 2006. Now that Sammi is in school I got a job out of the accounting field and into the teaching field. I am an EA step I with the Title I department at our local school. I work with 1st graders in reading and 3rd graders Math. It's fun to have a variety of kids all day. It's a lot of fun and I'm happy to be at Sammi's school even though I'm not in her class.
Military
Actually I've never been in the military, but I married me an Army man. There is just something about a man in a uniform. So I did get a taste of the military life and still like shopping in a commissary. You know you don't pay tax on liquor! :)
Bob is retired from the National Guard 2003. He has been activated more times than I can count, but we have been blessed keeping him home.
I'll miss his annual trainings each year, it's like a mini vacation for me. Although I do have a lot of icky laundry to do when he returns.
One of Bob's favorite things of Army life was going to Germany for a few years... Darn it he did that before we married. One of his favorite memories of being a National Guardsman is helping fight the fires in 1988 in Yellowstone and right outside of Glacier National Park.
When all is said and done what I've learned from military life? Don't complain. If the Army wanted soldiers to have a spouse, they would have issued them one!!
God Bless all of our Troops, Where ever they are stationed!!
