Life
Came home from College in 1976, worked at Hartman Metal (Waterloo) for a few years, then moved to Goulds Pumps for 5 years, on to Ithaca, NY to working for a commercial printing company for 6. Moved to Boston, MA and MIT for 21/2 years, met future husband who was and still is in the Navy and getting PhD in Ocean Engineering. Moved to Washington DC area, got married in 1992 (in SF actually). Moved on to Newport News, VA, for husband's tour of duty at Newport News Shipbuilding, first child Grace born in 1996, second child Nick born in 1997. ds are both in grade school now and doing well. My husband is being promoted to Capt. this August (in the Navy, that's one rank below Admiral) and will probably retire from active duty during the summer of 2007 and go civilian. We haven't moved much during the Navy career, a real plus, but have managed to travel abroad a few times and across the country. We do come north several times a year to visit family and to beat the oppressive southern heat. Winters down here aren't bad but the summers are brutal. I would trade 6 feet of snow for wool-blanket 95 degree weather anyday. Ones does acclamate, however, and although backyard pools are not that prevalent down here, there are many many community pools that serve just fine.
