Ella Mae's Story
I left Port Lavaca in Sept of 1970, I was a sophomore at the time. I lived on Lowery Drive, and went to Roosevelt Elem., Jackson Elem., Crockett Jr. High, Travis Jr. High and then started my sophomore year at CHS. My Mom and I moved to KY and now some 38 years later, here I am, living in Louisville. My daughter and her son live with me now and I am loving being a NaNa and spoiling him rotten. I also have a son who has a precious little boy 2 years old and a new baby girl, 3 months. I work a couple of days a week for Allstate and the rest of my time when I have spare time I love to do needlework and cook. Life has presented me with ups and downs, though I must say it hasn't been all bad...Expand for more

I really miss Texas. I have the fondest memories of growing up there, how it gets so hot in the summer the ground cracks, I had many a skinned knee because of those cracks. I miss the seagulls, the shells we had in our driveway and the good bar-be- que at Charlie Whites Kwik Way & Bar-be que Room, I think that's what it was called. Brisket, pinto beans, potato salad, pickles and sliced onions and a cup of sauce. Oh man, it makes my mouth water.
I have tried to keep up by reading the Port Lavaca Wave online but I have rarely recognized any names. I hope to reconnect with old friends and maybe make the next reunion they have. Let me hear from you guys! What is your story?
