Ellen's Story
Life
I have no idea who completed my Q&A, erroneously I may add. I certainly don't "vegetate", nor am I "single and loving it." After dear old Catskill High School, I found my way to Vermont where I graduated with a degree in psychology and sociology from the University of Vermont in Burlington. I also graduated with highest honors from nursing school in 1980. I attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, where I pursued graduate work in psychiatric nurse practice. Life happened, I was divorced from my husband, Bruce (who received a Ph.D in clinical neuropsychology from Vanderbilt) in 1984, and working as a nurse full-time and raising my son was all I could muster at that juncture in my life. Needless to say, my graduate studies were put on hold. I lived and worked in Nashville for almost 20 years, and relocated to Portland, Maine, in 1999. I resumed graduate school at the University of Maine in the Advanced Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Program in 2005, and I've been taking as many courses as my busy work schedule allows. h is the death of both parents. I've also survived several floods and other sundry mishaps. My son, Gideon Nathanial, is now 32 and lives in San Francisco. He is a gifted writer, but pays the bills by being a sommelier at a very upscale restaurant there. I, too, am in the process of writing a short novel, as yet untitled about the life of a psychiatrist in fashionable New York City (where I was born some 61 years ago at St. Vincent's in the East Village). Write what you know. At CHS I was an underachiever. True to my fabricated profile, I have accomplished more than anyone expected of me, and certainly more than I was encouraged to expect of myself. Since my divorce I have had several significant relationships, but have chosen to remain single. My ex-husband and I have worked through all the contentiousness of our earler life together, and although he has remarried, we maintain a close bond. My life today is full and rich. I wanted to set the record straight for those of you who remember me and have chosen to view my profile. I have recreated myself many times over to become who I am today, a woman of intelligence and substance. Blessings to you all. Ellen Freese
