Ellen's Story
Life
My first job (1966) was as a bookkeeper at Rural Gas on Middle Street. Then I went to work at Aetna (Oct.1966 to March 1967) as a keypunch operator. My next job was a cashier at Grandway (August 1967 to July 1971)Department store. I was part of the original crew and worked with the moms of Donna Tinella, Arlene Hirschler, and Herb Marshall. When I got married (July 1971)I moved to East Hartford. While there I worked parttime for a tax agency. In April 1974 I moved back to Bristol. I remained a housewife and hoped to begin a family. the Bristol Tech. Ed. Center and David is in the top 10% of his freshman class at Eastern. My husband retired from the Hartford Ins. Group in 1998. Today he is a full time study hall moniter at BEHS! I am very active at church, Bristol Baptist Church. I am currently chair of the Board of Christian Education, and Secretary of the Pastor Search Committee, taught Sunday school for 30 years, served twice as Financial Secretary, chair of the Music Committee and I sing soprano in the church choir. I am also a member of our handbell choir, but this choir is dormant at the moment due to lack of qualified leadership. I am currently taking Sign Language classes, offered at no charge by a church member. We only paid for the book.
